Tours to Spain: what to know

A trip to Spain from Kostanay usually takes from one week to two, and the best months for a holiday are May, June and September: the sea is warm, the heat is milder, prices are lower than at peak times. In summer, Costa Brava, Costa Dorada and Malaga are popular, in winter — Tenerife and Mallorca. There are no direct flights, the route is built through Istanbul or Dubai, the journey takes from several hours to a day.

Visa and documents for a trip to Spain

A trip to this country requires preparation in advance. Tours to Spain from Kostanay are planned several months before departure in order to have time to collect the papers without haste.

Deadlines for submitting an application to the visa center

The application is submitted in advance because appointments at the visa center fill up quickly. In spring there are especially many applicants. The company recommends submitting documents for a visa 4–6 weeks before the trip. It helps that the hotel booking and tickets are already in hand. The peak of submissions falls on March–May, when summer tours are booked from Kostanay. The application is accepted in person, so it is better not to combine the day of the visit with other matters. The Spanish side does not review the package instantly, and a spare couple of weeks is never superfluous. Early submission removes nerves before departure.

Insurance and financial guarantees for entry

The medical policy is issued for the entire duration of the trip. A holiday in Spain without insurance is impossible: the policy covers treatment and reimbursement in case of cancellation. The coverage amount must be no lower than the established minimum. Financial guarantees are confirmed by a bank statement or a certificate from work. The Spanish side looks at the balance and the regularity of income. For a trip to Tenerife and Mallorca the policy is the same, a separate one is not needed. Copies of documents are kept on the phone and in paper form. The policy is printed out: at the border they may ask for a paper version.

When is the best time to go on holiday to Spain?

The climate of the country is different: the Mediterranean coast, the north and the islands live by their own rules. A holiday in Spain is chosen by month just as by resort.

High season on the coasts

The peak falls on July and August. Costa Brava and Costa Dorada are packed in these months, and the water is the warmest. Hotels on the coast are snapped up months before check-in, and prices are the highest. Malaga and the surroundings are hot in August: during the day the air becomes scorching, it is comfortable to walk in the morning and evening. Spanish cuisine is lighter in the heat: cold soups and grilled fish. Beaches are taken from the morning, sun loungers are paid. Families with children often choose June: the sea is already warm, and there are fewer crowds. Barcelona in July is noisy and crowded.

ResortBest monthsFeature of the season
Costa BravaJune–SeptemberRocky coves, wind
Costa DoradaMay–OctoberLong sandy beaches
MalagaApril–OctoberWarm sea, stable weather

Velvet season and shoulder season

September and October are the best time for a quiet holiday. The sea is still warm, and the heat subsides. May and June give mild weather and low prices. A holiday in Spain in the shoulder season is cheaper, but some beach bars close. Madrid and Barcelona in April are good for walks. On Mallorca the season opens later than on the mainland. The Spanish autumn in the south lasts long: in Andalusia it is warm even in November.

How to get to the resorts from Kazakhstan?

There are no direct flights, so the route is built with connections. The journey takes from several hours to a day, and this is worth taking into account when choosing dates.

Routes with connections through Istanbul and Dubai

Istanbul and Dubai are the main transfer hubs for tours to this country from Kostanay. Through Istanbul it is convenient to fly to Barcelona and Madrid. Dubai gives a connection to flights to Madrid and to the islands. European hubs add one more flight, but expand the choice. A connection lasts from a couple of hours to a night, and a long wait is better planned in advance. Baggage is often checked through to the final point. Tickets for connecting flights are taken in one booking so as not to lose the transfer. Costa Brava and Costa Dorada are closer to Barcelona, Malaga — to the south.

Time difference and acclimatization

The difference with mainland Spain is noticeable, and on the Canary Islands it is one hour more. In the first days it is better not to load up with excursions. Madrid and Barcelona live on a later schedule than we are used to. The body readjusts in two or three days, and this is normal. Tenerife requires a little more time for adaptation. Light and walks in the fresh air help to get into the rhythm faster. A heavy program is set for the third day of the trip.

Transport and movement around the country

It is convenient to move between cities by train or bus. Within the resorts, local transport is enough, and a car is taken for trips along the coast.

High-speed trains and buses between cities

High-speed trains connect major centers and save time. Barcelona and Madrid are connected by a fast line. It is more profitable to take tickets in advance: prices rise for popular routes. Buses are cheaper and run more often, but take longer. A holiday in Spain is often built with transfers between cities. Malaga is connected to the southern resorts by bus service. At the station a document is needed, so it is kept at hand. The schedule is checked the evening before.

Car rental on the coasts

A car is convenient for trips along Costa Brava and Costa Dorada. It gives freedom: stops in coves, villages, viewpoints. In Barcelona and Madrid parking is expensive, and the center is restricted for entry. An international driver's license is needed. The car is booked in advance; in season the choice of cars drops. Insurance is arranged on the spot or immediately at booking. Refueling on the highways is paid by card or cash. The return of the car is planned with a margin before departure.

Visa and entry rules change: check with the primary source — the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in the Republic of Kazakhstan, https://www.exteriores.gob.es/Embajadas/astana/es/ServiciosConsulares/Paginas/index.aspx. The information on this page was verified on 17.09.2026.

What should a tourist from Kazakhstan take into account?

Local habits differ from ours, and this is noticeable from the first day. A holiday in Spain becomes easier if you know the daily routine in advance.

Payment by card and cash euros

Cards from Kazakh banks are not accepted everywhere. In large hotels and stores payment goes through, in small cafes — not always. It is worth having cash euros with you for the first days. Small bills are more convenient: change is not always given for large ones. ATMs are common, but the commission can be noticeable. The Spanish habit of paying by card for small amounts is not widespread everywhere. Part of the money is kept separately from the main amount. A wallet with cash will come in handy at markets and in taxis.

Opening hours of establishments and tips

Lunch on schedule: kitchens open around 13–14 o'clock. Dinner starts after 20–21, and in between, bars with tapas are open. Siesta is real: in small towns, stores close during the day and stay open late in the evening. Madrid and Barcelona live more actively, but the schedule is similar. Tips are not mandatory; in restaurants, people leave a rounded-up amount or a few percent. Spanish cuisine differs by region: in Catalonia it is tomato and seafood, in Andalusia — fried fish, in the north — cheeses and cider. The tourist tax on accommodation is charged in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands; it is paid separately from the booking.
