About the programme

Six days across Azerbaijan is a route where the measured urban rhythm of Baku gives way to the subtropics of the south, and then to the coolness of mountain slopes in the north. The trip begins in the capital, from where you will make two long radial excursions — to Lankaran and Gabala — and on the fifth day you return to Baku (in the base program, the Absheron tour is for an additional fee). Such a pattern gives contrast: ancient petroglyphs and mud volcanoes, a citrus valley with tea drinking and homemade jam, Christian temples of ancient Caucasian Albania.

The rhythm of the trip is uneven: the first day is a soft entry and free time, the second is a rich walking tour of central Baku, the third and fourth are long drives with stops, the fifth is a return to Baku, the sixth is a calm conclusion. Overnights in hotels are distributed as follows: several in Baku and one in Gabala. This allows you not to move every day with a suitcase, but to explore the regions lightly.

The trip will suit those who want to see the country beyond one city: here there is both urban architecture of different eras, and nature — from subtropics to mountains, and gastronomy with local specialties. A lot of time is spent on the road between regions, but each stop is a separate world: a citrus farm, a Udi village, a winery at the foot of the mountain.

It is important to take into account that the flight is not included in the program, and some excursions and tastings require an additional fee or are available in certain tariffs — this is stated in the description of the days. Lunches and dinners outside the program are at your own expense. Evening outings and free time can be planned independently.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arrival in Baku, meeting and transfer to the hotel — a day without excursions, to look around and rest. Free time can be spent on Nizami pedestrian street or on the Seaside Boulevard, where in season a pleasure boat operates. If you want to hide from the bustle — look into large shopping centers, for example "Deniz Mall" or "Crescent Mall". This is a day of soft entry into the trip.

  2. Day 2

    The main impression of the day is a walking tour of Baku, where the mansions of oil barons neighbor buildings in the style of baroque and neo-Gothic. You will pass by the National Museum of Azerbaijan Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi and the Ismailiyya Palace, and then through the Philharmonic Garden you will enter the Old City. There — narrow streets, the Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, lunch in the restaurant "Kurban Said" with dishes of dushbara and dolma. The day ends with a walk along the boulevard, where the Mugham Center and the Carpet Museum stand out. The pace is rich, but on foot.

  3. Day 3

    Day of the southern direction: after breakfast you go to Lankaran, stopping along the way in Gobustan. There — petroglyphs, mud volcanoes and a museum with interactive expositions. Then — a citrus valley, where in season you can pick fruits, and lunch in village style with lyavangi. In Lankaran you will see the fortress and the Kichik-Bazar mosque, and after — Hirkan National Park with Lake Khanbulan. Return to Baku. The pace of the day is travel, with several stops.

  4. Day 4

    The northern departure to Gabala begins with a drive and a visit to the village of Nij, where the Udis live. You will see the Albanian-Udi Church of Jotari of Saint Eliseus and the Church of the Holy Mother of God Mary (Bulun), as well as the museum-restaurant "Udi Ocaghi" with lunch of Udi cuisine. After — the SAVALAN winery: a tour of the vineyards, a tasting with snacks and the Wine Museum with a huge wooden barrel. The excursion and tasting are for an additional fee for the base tariff. Night in Gabala. The day combines history and gastronomy.

  5. Day 5

    Return to Baku. For the base program, the day is free, the Absheron tour can be booked for an additional fee. If you go — you will find lunch in the restaurant "Ateshgah" with kutab and saj ichi, then the fire temple "Ateshgah" in Surakhany, the settlement of Balakhany with restored facades and the reserve "Yanar Dagh" — the burning mountain. In Baku — a stop at the Heydar Aliyev Center. Dinner in the restaurant Sharq Bazar is available in the premium tariff. Entrance tickets to Ateshgah and Yanar Dagh are for an additional fee. The pace is measured, with several stops.

  6. Day 6

    Breakfast in the hotel, free time until departure. Then transfer to the airport and flight home. A day without excursions, suitable for unhurried packing and last walks around Baku.
