Tbilisi, Borjomi and Vardzia: 5-day sightseeing tour
Days: 5Flight included
About the programme
Five days across Georgia, where the capital's noise gives way to the silence of the mountains, and a city walk — to a cave monastery and a high-mountain lake. The route is built so that each next day differs noticeably from the previous one: first you get acquainted with Tbilisi, then you leave for the resort forests, then you descend into the history of fortresses and rocks, and you finish the trip by the water and in the gorges.
The first day is entirely given to Tbilisi — a leisurely walk through the old part with panoramas, a cable car and a fortress wall. This is the day when the city opens up gradually: from above, from a height, and then up close, among narrow streets and noisy squares.
Then the rhythm changes: you leave the capital and go toward Borjomi, where dense forests and mineral springs set a calm tone. On the way — the Rabati fortress in Akhaltsikhe, a place where minarets and Christian domes stand side by side, and where it is pleasant simply to wander along the cobbled streets.
The third day is the most "historical": the cave monastery of Vardzia, carved into the rock, with its passages, chapels and wine cellars. In the evening — a culinary master class in a local family, where Meskhetian dishes are prepared and beer aged in qvevri is tasted.
The fourth day is about nature: the high-mountain lake Paravani and the Dashbashi canyon with emerald gorges and a glass bridge. Returning to Tbilisi in the evening leaves time for a walk through the old city. The fifth day is free, with breakfast and a transfer; the flight is included in the program.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1
The acquaintance with Tbilisi begins at the monument to the founder of the city and the Metekhi church — from there a panorama of the Old City opens up. Then the palace of Queen Darejan with views of Mtatsminda, a walk through Rike Park and an ascent by cable car await you. The main impression of the day is the Narikala fortress wall and the view of the botanical garden, and after that — a descent along a spiral staircase to the gorge with a canyon and a waterfall. The day ends at the sulfur baths, on Vakhtang Gorgasali Square and at the Bridge of Peace, with dinner at the Mravalzhamieri restaurant.
Day 2
In the morning you leave the capital for Borjomi — a resort among forests and mountains. Here the main thing is a leisurely walk through the Central Park, where mineral water can be tasted straight from the spring. You can go up by cable car, admiring the gorge, or walk to the abandoned Romanov Palace. After lunch the road leads to Akhaltsikhe, to the Rabati fortress, where medieval walls neighbor minarets and Christian domes. The night passes in a guest house with dinner.
Day 3
This is the day of Vardzia — a cave monastery carved into a sheer cliff. Inside — many rooms, chapels, wine cellars, narrow passages and secret tunnels; here both history and the skill of the architects are felt. The day ends in the mountains at sunset, and in the evening — a master class of Meskhetian cuisine in a local family: Apokhti and Meskhetian breads are prepared, beer from qvevri is tasted. On request — beer baths. The night is in the same guest house.
Day 4
The road leads away into the highlands of Samtskhe-Javakheti, to lake Paravani — calm water among harsh landscapes. Then — the Dashbashi canyon with emerald gorges, waterfalls and a glass bridge over the abyss. In the evening, return to Tbilisi: a walk through the old quarters, where lanterns light the cobblestones and the smells of coffee and spices hover in the air. This is the most contrasting day of the trip — from the silence of the mountains to the city lights.
Day 5
The morning begins with breakfast at the hotel and check-out. The day remains free — you can take a walk or rest before the journey. Then a transfer to the airport; the flight is included in the program.
