About the programme

Eight days across Georgia with a trip to Turkey: the route goes from Tbilisi through Kakheti and Mtskheta to Kutaisi and Batumi, and on one of the days crosses the border and returns back. The trip is put together so that long road stretches alternate with slow walks: after a busy day in the capital you are awaited by a wine region, then ancient temples and a rock-hewn town, and further on — a completely different, western rhythm of cities and the sea. The flight is not included, while the group transfer from the airport and back is part of the program.

This tour is for those who want to see Georgia in its different guises: a noisy old town, vineyards, cave towns, a resort promenade and mountain monasteries. There are many drives, but each of them changes the scenery outside the window: valleys give way to mountain passes, conifers to subtropical greenery, and the sea appears on the last days. Breakfasts are included every day, as are some of the tastings and workshops.

Meals outside breakfasts, entrance tickets and personal expenses are paid on the spot. The program includes booking the Sulfur Baths for an hour, a boat ride on the Kura or a cable car ascent — the choice depends on the weather. Wine tasting is available from eighteen years old, and a workshop on baking Georgian puri bread is included on the third day.

Please note: on the first day check-in at the hotel is after 15:00, and on the final day the room must be vacated by 12:00. The transfer to Batumi airport on the last day is provided for any flight. Return to Tbilisi is possible for an additional fee.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

Arrival in Tbilisi and transfer to the hotel — the drive takes about half an hour, depending on the traffic situation. Check-in is after 15:00, and before that there is free time to look around and rest after the flight. Meals on this day are not included in the price.

  2. Day 2

Getting to know the capital begins with Tsminda Sameba Cathedral, and then you find yourself in the old town, where the main impressions are the Rezo Gabriadze Theater with its tower and Anchiskhati Church. The walk goes along the Bridge of Peace and Shardeni Street, past the Abanotubani sulfur baths and the Fig Waterfall — further on, depending on the weather, either a boat ride on the Kura or a cable car ascent to Mtatsminda. This day is the most urban and packed, with a large number of stops and impressions. Separately booked are the Sulfur Baths for an hour — relaxation after a long walk.

  3. Day 3

A day in Kakheti — it differs from the capital one by its measured rhythm and the views of the Alazani Valley. It begins with Bodbe Monastery, where the relics of Saint Nino rest, and continues in Sighnaghi with its white-stone streets and a view of the valley. The main impression of the day is a wine tasting at a winery, and also a stop in the village of Badiauri, where they show how shotis puri is baked and let you try bread straight from the oven. Wine tasting is available from eighteen years old.

  4. Day 4

The spiritual part of the route: first Jvari Monastery on the top of a mountain, from where the confluence of the Aragvi and the Kura is visible, then ancient Mtskheta and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. The second half of the day is the cave town of Uplistsikhe with streets carved into the rock, temples and an ancient theater. The day ends with a wine tasting at a winery, after which the road leads to Borjomi — to mountain air and a mineral water spring. Night in Borjomi. Wine tasting from eighteen years old.

  5. Day 5

This is the day of the drive to the west, and it is opened by the Rikoti Pass — beyond it the climate and the scenery change. In Kutaisi the walk goes through the historical center: bridges, old houses, the Jewish quarter. The main impression is Bagrati Cathedral on a hill above the city, from where a view of the roofs and the river opens up. The day is completed by Prometheus Cave with underground lakes and stalactites — it is cool there, so it is worth taking warm clothes.

  6. Day 6

The day begins with nature: Martvili Canyon on the Abasha River — emerald water, waterfalls and white cliffs. Here you can ride an inflatable boat for about fifteen minutes, and then walk along the canyon over bridges and viewing platforms. After that — the drive to Batumi and a sightseeing walk around the city: old quarters with chimeras and atlantes on the facades, the Seaside Boulevard and modern architecture. The day combines nature and the city, and ends by the sea.

  7. Day 7

The longest day: a journey from Georgia to Turkey and back. The first stop is Lake Uzungöl in a mountain valley, where only the water and the birds break the silence. Then — Sumela Monastery, grown into the rock; the ascent to it is paid separately, on the spot. In Trabzon you can see the Hagia Sophia Mosque with Byzantine frescoes, and then spend free time in Forum Mall for shopping and coffee. Return to Batumi. The passport must be valid for at least six months, and the lunch box must be ordered the day before.

  8. Day 8

Breakfast at the hotel and check-out by 12:00. The transfer to Batumi airport is provided for any flight. This is where the journey ends.
