About the programme

This trip is about Georgia without haste and fuss: five nights in Tbilisi, from where the route diverges in different directions — to ancient Mtskheta under the walls of monasteries, to wine-growing Kakheti beyond the pass, and to the city itself, whose streets keep legends. The flight is not included, but the program itself is arranged so that there is always somewhere to return to — the hotel awaits in Tbilisi.

The rhythm of the trip is uneven, and that is its charm: two packed excursion days are next to a free day, when one can simply wander around the city or choose something optionally for an additional fee. One day is fully given to Tbilisi — its old city, observation decks, and an evening in a restaurant with a folklore program. Another — a trip to Kakheti, where wine, bread from the oven, and the city of love Sighnaghi add up to a long but warm road home.

Who is this for? For those who want to see Georgia both through architecture and through taste — cheese at the market, churchkhela, wine from the cellar. For those who are not afraid to spend a day on the road to Kakheti and back, because along the way there will be stops at a monastery and a walk around Telavi. And for those for whom it is important to return to the same hotel, and not move with a suitcase.

The days differ in pace: the second and fifth are long and packed, the third is shorter but dense with impressions, the fourth is free and optional, the first and sixth are about arrival and departure. Between them — Tbilisi as a point of attraction, from which everything begins and to which everything returns.

Cuisine, wine, mountains in the distance, and old stones — that is what remains in memory from this trip. Here there is no need to run anywhere: the program itself leads from one day to another, leaving room both for excursions and for silence.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

Arrival in Tbilisi and a free evening — time to settle in, walk around the city, or simply rest after the road. Overnight in Tbilisi.

  2. Day 2

The day belongs entirely to Tbilisi: the narrow streets of the old city, Sameba Cathedral, views from the platform at Metekhi, Rike Park and the Bridge of Peace, a walk to the Sulfur Baths — the heart of the city. It is also worth looking into Meidan Bazaar, where one can try and buy cheese and other Georgian products. Further — Sharden Street, the Gabriadze Puppet Theater from the outside, Orbeliani Square, and toward the Tbilisi Sea — the Chronicle of Georgia monument with its bronze and copper columns and bas-reliefs. The day ends with a meal in a Georgian restaurant with live music and dancing, after which guests are taken to their hotels — they stay overnight in Tbilisi again.

  3. Day 3

The road leads to Mtskheta — the ancient capital, where time is felt differently. The main stops of the day are Jvari Monastery on a hill above the confluence of the Aragvi and Kura rivers and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, the second largest in Georgia. The program also includes free time for lunch at one's own expense and continuation of the route to Shio-Mgvime Monastery, where one can see the church and the underground prison, if there is access.

  4. Day 4

A free day in Tbilisi — one can stay in the city or choose something for an additional fee: a trip to the Kazbegi mountains with lunch and a glass of chacha, which is possible in season, or a VIP excursion to the Castle of Rituals in Tbilisi — a private residence with paintings, antique furniture, and a collection of cars of famous persons. Also for an additional fee are offered a trip to Borjomi and Akhaltsikhe to Rabati Fortress, a half-day excursion to Tsalka Canyon, a visit to the Sarajishvili cognac factory and the Bagrationi sparkling wine factory, and booking of the sulfur baths. All this is optional, and the cost of transport and guide is specified separately at booking. Overnight in Tbilisi.

  5. Day 5

A long road to Kakheti through the Gombori Pass with a stop at the New Shuamta monastery in a picturesque place. In Telavi — a walking tour of the historical center, and then a transfer to Kvareli, where in a wine cellar a tasting of two types of wine and a class on preparing Georgian treats await: they knead dough for bread, which is baked in a tone oven, make churchkhela and Adjarian khachapuri; the dishes prepared with one's own hands can be tried in the gazebo, and lunch right there in the restaurant can be booked additionally at one's own expense. Further — Sighnaghi with pastel houses and carved balconies, where at a local winemaker they try melon chacha and wines of different varieties, and what one likes can be bought from the host. In case of snowfall, the route changes: without the pass, and the visit to New Shuamta and Telavi is replaced by Gremi Church. Late return to Tbilisi and transfer to the hotel.

  6. Day 6

Breakfast at the hotel, check-out, and transfer to Tbilisi International Airport — home.
