About the programme

This trip is a route through the south and center of China, where the urban rhythm of a megacity gives way to karst landscapes, rice terraces, river cruises and mountains familiar from cinema. Ten days and nine nights add up to an unhurried movement from Guangzhou through Guilin and Yangshuo to Fenghuang and Zhangjiajie, with a return to Guangzhou. The flight is not included, but within the route the program provides for both trains, and transfers, and boat trips.

The first two days are a contrast: modern Guangzhou with Huacheng Square and Yuexiu Park, and then a transfer to Guilin. Then nature takes over: the Longji Rice Terraces, a cruise on the Li River to Yangshuo, the karst Reed Flute Cave and a climb to Fubo Hill. Each day here has its own character — from a contemplative cruise to a walk along the narrow streets of the old town.

The middle of the route is Fenghuang, where time seems to slow down among bridges, temples and ancient houses. Here too are the Southern Great Wall and the Giant Panda Breeding and Research Center. Then Zhangjiajie: the Grand Canyon with a glass bridge, Baofeng Lake, the National Park with the Bailong Elevator and Jiankunzhu Mountain, the Tianzishan cable car and a walk along the Golden Whip Stream.

The trip is completed by Tianmen Mountain with the Heaven's Gate and a return to Guangzhou. A night in a hotel before the flight home gives a pause to collect one's thoughts. The tour is suitable for those who are ready for transfers, want to see both a megacity, and village life, and mountain landscapes, and are not afraid to change hotels. The rhythm is uneven: after busy excursions there are calm evenings in hotels, and between cities — the road.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arrival in Guangzhou, meeting at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation and first impressions of the city.

  2. Day 2

    Sightseeing tour of Guangzhou: Huacheng Square and Yuexiu Park. Lunch in a Cantonese cuisine restaurant, then a choice — the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall or the Temple of the Great Buddha. Transfer to the railway station and departure to Guilin, accommodation in the hotel.

  3. Day 3

    A trip to the Longji Rice Terraces, where the mountain slopes are covered with emerald fields. Acquaintance with the culture and daily life of the Zhuang people. Lunch with rice in bamboo and butter tea, return to the hotel in Guilin.

  4. Day 4

    A cruise on the Li River from Guilin to Yangshuo with views of rocky banks and lunch on board. A walk along West Street in Yangshuo with its shops and cafes. Return to the hotel in Guilin.

  5. Day 5

    A visit to the Reed Flute Cave with its stalactites and stalagmites. A climb to Fubo Hill for a panorama of Guilin. Lunch, then transfer to the railway station and departure to Fenghuang, accommodation and free time.

  6. Day 6

    A walk through ancient Fenghuang with narrow streets, bridges and temples. A visit to the Southern Great Wall and the Giant Panda Breeding and Research Center. Lunch in a local cuisine restaurant, an opportunity to see Fenghuang at night, return to the hotel.

  7. Day 7

    Transfer to Zhangjiajie. The Grand Canyon with high cliffs and a glass bridge between the mountains. A calm boat ride on the mountain Baofeng Lake, lunch and accommodation in the hotel.

  8. Day 8

    Zhangjiajie National Park: ascent by the Bailong Elevator to Jiankunzhu Mountain with panoramic views of the rocky peaks. Lunch, then the Tianzishan excursion area with a cable car and a walk along the Golden Whip Stream.

  9. Day 9

    A trip to Tianmen Mountain National Park to the Heaven's Gate — a natural cave at a height. Lunch in a Chinese cuisine restaurant, transfer to the railway station and departure to Guangzhou. Arrival, accommodation and rest.

  10. Day 10

    Breakfast in the hotel and check-out. Transfer to the airport and flight home.
