Hangzhou, Yiwu and Shanghai: 7-day sightseeing tour
Days: 7Flight from Almaty is priced separately
About the programme
This trip is arranged as a leisurely but rich route through eastern China: Hangzhou, Yiwu and Shanghai are connected by high-speed trains and a bus, and the programme itself is divided into two very different halves. First — the business, trading side of the country: a city that lives by wholesale markets and manufacturing, and then — big cities with gardens, skyscrapers and tea slopes.
The first part of the trip is devoted to Yiwu — one of the main centres of goods distribution, whose importance is recognised by international organisations such as the UN and the World Bank. Here the traveller sets the rhythm: the days are free for shopping, and the evenings belong to the hotel and leisurely walks through the trading quarters. This is rather independent work with the assortment than a sightseeing programme.
The second half changes the pace: Shanghai and Hangzhou show the other side of China — garden and park classics, panoramas of rivers and megacity energy. Here a guide appears, lunches in Chinese restaurants and a clear schedule with sightseeing. The contrast between businesslike Yiwu and the strolling cities is the main plot of this trip.
The route will suit those who want to combine purchases and acquaintance with culture without overloading themselves with daily transfers. Movements within the country are short, and the flight home is at the very end. Nights in hotels — six, accommodation in standard rooms of 4 stars hotels.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Hangzhou — a city of tea plantations and green hills. A driver with a sign will meet you and take you to the railway station, from where you will set off to Yiwu on a high-speed train. The journey takes forty minutes, and already at the Yiwu station a driver will meet you again and see you to the hotel.
Day 2–4
These days are given to Yiwu — the largest centre of goods distribution, whose importance is recognised by the UN and the World Bank. Here there are tens of thousands of factories and workshops, therefore at the local markets one can find practically everything at low wholesale prices. Breakfasts at the hotel, and the rest of the time is free for shopping in the international trade city.
Day 5
Transfer to Shanghai by high-speed train, where at the station a Russian-speaking guide will meet you. After accommodation — a sightseeing tour with lunch in a Chinese restaurant: the classical Yu Garden with white walls and curved roofs, the Old City with shops and souvenirs. The main impression of the day — the Oriental Pearl TV Tower: a transparent observation ring, a panorama of the city and the Huangpu River, multimedia projects about the future of Shanghai. Return to the hotel and free time.
Day 6
The transfer by bus to Hangzhou takes four hours. Here a completely different walk begins: a boat trip on West Lake, a World Heritage site, with a view of the stone pagodas in the middle of the water — that very subject from the one-yuan banknote. Then a visit to tea plantations of the Dragon Well variety with a tasting, after which a transfer to the hotel and accommodation.
Day 7
After breakfast and checking out of the room — a sightseeing tour with lunch in a Chinese restaurant. Among the stops — the SIJIQING clothing market, a popular place for shopping, and the Six Harmonies Pagoda of the Song era with an ascent: thirteen outer levels, bells on the cornices, carvings and paintings with dragons, and from the seventh floor a view of the Qiantang River and the bridge across it opens. The order of the excursions may change. Then — departure home.
