Beijing, Xi'an and Shanghai: 9-day sightseeing tour

Beijing, Xi'an and Shanghai: 9-day sightseeing tour

Days: 9Flight included, chosen at booking

About the programme

This trip is about China that does not reveal itself at once: from the vast imperial spaces of Beijing through the archaeology of Xi'an to the modern scale of Shanghai. Eight or nine days, seven or eight nights, of which five or six are in hotels, and two are spent on the road: first a night train, then another one. The flight is included, so there is no need to think about tickets — only about what you will manage to see.

The rhythm of the trip is uneven, and that is its character. In Beijing the days are long and full, with trips out of the city and a return to unhurried rest. Then the train carries you west, to Xi'an, where the pace becomes denser: you arrive, leave your things and immediately go to see what people come here for. Then the train again — and Shanghai, where time finally slows down, free time appears, and the city can be felt not only from the bus window.

The trip is for those who want to see different Chinas in one journey and are not afraid of two nights in a compartment. This is not beach holidays and not an unhurried tour: there are many transfers, early rises and impressions that accumulate rather than smoothly replace one another. But the route gives a rare sense of scale — from temples and palaces to the terracotta army and skyscrapers.

Meals are thought out: breakfasts in hotels, lunches in Chinese cuisine restaurants, and on one of the days — a dumpling banquet, the local cuisine of Shaanxi province. Entrance tickets, a guide and transport for excursions are included, as are train tickets in a compartment. Separately — tips for guides, drivers and porters.

Days on the road should be perceived as part of the route: a night train is not a pause, but a transition, after which the city is perceived differently. Five or six nights in hotels give the opportunity to sleep and reset between full days.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

Arrival in Beijing, meeting with the guide and transfer to the city. After lunch — the Temple of Heaven, where city residents stroll among ancient buildings; this is the first acquaintance with the city and its unhurried rhythm. For an additional payment you can see a Chinese circus or Peking opera. Then return to the hotel.

  2. Day 2

The main impression of the day is the Great Wall of China: the climb, the expanse and the sense of scale. Nearby — the Summer Imperial Palace with the Yiheyuan park, where palaces and water form a separate world. Lunch in a country restaurant of Chinese cuisine. On the way — an exterior view of the Olympic venues, the "Nest" and "Water Cube" stadiums. Return to the hotel and rest.

  3. Day 3

The morning begins with the zoo and the panda house — this is a rare opportunity to see the animals up close. Then the Lamaist palace Yonghegong, where the architecture and atmosphere are completely different from those in the imperial parks. After lunch — the road to the station and departure to Xi'an: the journey will be in a compartment, the train goes all night. The room is given up before departure.

  4. Day 4

Arrival in Xi'an, meeting and transfer to the hotel, you leave your things at the reception. The day is dedicated to the terracotta army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang — this is the main reason people come here, and the impression lasts a long time. Another stop is an art ceramics factory, where you can see how they work with clay. Then the Banpo Museum and accommodation in the hotel.

  5. Day 5

After breakfast and giving up the room — the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, without climbing, and the ancient city wall, from which you can see how the city is arranged. Lunch — a dumpling banquet, the traditional cuisine of Shaanxi province. Then transfer to the station and a night train to Shanghai, in a compartment.

  6. Day 6

Arrival in Shanghai, meeting at the station and transfer to the hotel, things at the reception. The first acquaintance with the city — the Jade Buddha Temple, and then a cruise along the Huangpu River, from where the city is visible from the water. Return to the hotel and free time.

  7. Day 7

The day begins with the Yu Garden — this is a classic Chinese garden with water and stones. Then the "Oriental Pearl" TV tower with an observation deck: the city opens up from above, and this is a feeling of a different scale. Another stop is the Shanghai History Museum. After lunch — return to the hotel and free time.

  8. Day 8

Breakfast in the hotel and giving up the room. Transfer to the airport and flight home. A day without excursions — only the road.
