Shanghai, Zhangjiajie, Fenghuang and Beijing: 11-day sightseeing tour

Shanghai, Zhangjiajie, Fenghuang and Beijing: 11-day sightseeing tour

Days: 11Flight from Almaty is priced separately

About the programme

This is a journey through China, in which the urban rhythm of a megacity gives way to landscapes for which people come here from afar, and then — to ancient cities and imperial history. The route begins in Shanghai, continues in Zhangjiajie with its cliffs and caves, then leads to Fenghuang and ends in Beijing.

The first part of the trip is an introduction to Shanghai: gardens, water, high-rise observation decks and the measured atmosphere of a southern city, where you can go away for one day. Then the rhythm changes: a flight to Zhangjiajie — and around there are no longer streets, but quartz pillars, canyons and lakes. Here the days are filled with ascents, walks and transitions, and this is the most "natural" part of the program.

From Zhangjiajie the route goes to Fenghuang — an old town on the water, where the pace slows down again: alleys, the river, buildings on stilts, free time. And everything ends with Beijing: palaces, temples, the main square of the country and the Great Wall of China. This is already a different country in feeling — imperial, solemn, with a dense sightseeing program and a large number of impressions in a short time.

The trip will suit those who want to see China as different: not only megacities, but also nature, and antiquity. Movements between cities — domestic flights and transfers; the international flight is not included. Accommodation — in 4 stars hotels with breakfasts, part of the excursions takes place with a Russian-speaking guide, and some transfers and check-ins — without him.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

The first day begins with a meeting at Shanghai airport and lunch in a Chinese cuisine restaurant. Then — the Garden of Joy with its ponds and buildings, and after — the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, from where the city is visible from above. The day ends with a transfer to the hotel and rest.

  2. Day 2

Today — a one-day trip to Suzhou, which is called the Chinese Venice. Here there are two gardens: the Humble Administrator's Garden with its landscapes and the Fisherman's Garden, where you can learn more about the culture of China. After lunch — the Silk Museum, where they show how silk is produced. Return to Shanghai and rest.

  3. Day 3

A day of flight to Zhangjiajie. At the airport they meet and take you to the hotel without a guide. The rest of the day — rest before the dense program of the following days.

  4. Day 4

The main impression of the day — an ascent by funicular to the top of "One Hundred Dragons" and the views that, as Chinese sources claim, became the prototype of the mountains in the film "Avatar". Tianzi Mountain with its quartz cliffs — one of the known zones of Wulingyuan Reserve. If time and weather allow, there is a walking walk along the "Golden Whip" canyon. The day ends with dinner in a Chinese restaurant and return to the hotel.

  5. Day 5

This is the day of the glass bridge — the longest and highest in the world, 430 meters long and 300 meters high. Then — Yellow Dragon Cave, one of the main attractions of the reserve. After — a boat ride on the mountain lake Baofeng among cliffs of fancy shape. Dinner in a Chinese restaurant and return to the hotel.

  6. Day 6

Today — Heaven's Gate Mountain (Tianmenshan), to which the longest cableway in the world leads, 7455 meters long. At the top a staircase of 999 steps leads to Heaven's Gate Cave. After lunch — transfer to the ancient town of Fenghuang with ancient walls, gate towers, buildings on stilts and temples. Accommodation in a 4 stars hotel, free time and rest.

  7. Day 7

A sightseeing tour of old Fenghuang: blind alleys, shops of hereditary pharmacists, traditional stores and temples on the bank of the Tuo River. Here the atmosphere of not modern China is felt, and this is a romantic place. After lunch — a flight to Beijing, transfer to the hotel without a guide, check-in and rest.

  8. Day 8

The day begins with the main square of the country, one of the largest in the world, where the Monument to the People's Heroes is visible. Then — the Winter Imperial Palace (Forbidden City Museum), the former residence of emperors. Lunch in the "Peking Duck" restaurant, after — the Lamaist Temple Yonghegong, built in the 18th century. Return to the hotel and free time.

  9. Day 9

The main thing today — the Great Wall of China: tourists are brought to a section with a funicular, from where a view of the wall and nature opens. After lunch in a country restaurant — the Summer Imperial Palace (Yiheyuan Park), the former summer residence of emperors. Return to the hotel and free time. Optionally and for an additional payment you can watch the Peking Opera or the Peking Circus.

  10. Day 10

Today you will visit the Temple of Heaven — one of the symbols of Beijing, built in the 15th century for prayers for a rich harvest. Here emperors once a year brought gifts to Heaven after a three-day fast. After lunch in a Chinese cuisine restaurant — a tea ceremony. Return to the hotel and free time.

  11. Day 11

A day of transfer to the airport and departure home. The trip ends.
