Shanghai, Xi'an, Luoyang and Beijing: 9-day sightseeing tour
Days: 9Flight included
About the programme
This is a journey through China, where the country reveals itself through the contrasts of cities and eras. The route begins in Shanghai, leads through Suzhou and Xi'an to Luoyang and ends in Beijing. Most of the journey between cities is by rail: one transfer is a night train in a compartment, the rest are day trains. One night out of the total is spent on the road, the rest — in hotels.
The rhythm of the trip is uneven: some days are devoted to quiet walks through gardens and squares, others — to long transfers and packed excursions. This format will suit those who want to see different facets of China — from imperial tombs to modern observation decks — and do not mind spending part of the time on the road.
The program includes the flight, hotel accommodation, breakfasts and meals by day, entrance tickets to attractions, a Russian-speaking guide and transport for excursions and transfers. Railway tickets are also included. Tips for guides, drivers and porters are paid separately, and a visit to the circus or Peking opera in Beijing is possible for an additional fee.
Each day differs from the previous one: after noisy Shanghai — the quiet gardens of Suzhou, then the ancient capital Xi'an with its archaeological treasures, the Buddhist temples of Luoyang and, finally, the imperial scope of Beijing.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1
The first day sets the tone for the trip: the acquaintance with Shanghai begins with Yu Garden, where among stones and ponds the spirit of the Old City is felt. Then — a climb to the observation deck of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, from where the scale of the metropolis is visible. After lunch in a Chinese cuisine restaurant — the Shanghai History Museum, and the rest of the day remains free.
Day 2
This day is transitional: in the morning breakfast at the hotel and check-out, then a transfer to Suzhou. There — an excursion through two classical gardens, the Humble Administrator's Garden and the Fisherman's Garden, with lunch in a Chinese cuisine restaurant. By the end of the day — a transfer to the railway station and a night train to Xi'an in a compartment.
Day 3
Xi'an greets like an ancient capital: after checking into the hotel — an excursion to the Banpo site and to the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang. Lunch in a Chinese cuisine restaurant, and the day ends with a "Dumpling Banquet" dinner with dishes of Shaanxi province. This is a day of rich impressions from archaeology and local cuisine.
Day 4
The morning begins with breakfast and check-out, then — an excursion along the Ancient City Wall and to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. After a dumpling banquet lunch — a transfer to the railway station and a train to Luoyang in second class. On arrival — check-in at the hotel. The day combines a walk through historical places with a transfer.
Day 5
Luoyang reveals itself through spiritual monuments: after breakfast — an excursion to the Shaolin Monastery and the Pagoda Forest, then — the Longmen Grottoes. Lunch in a Chinese cuisine restaurant. Return to the hotel and free time. This day is one of the most contemplative of the trip.
Day 6
The day begins with breakfast and check-out, then — a transfer by express train to Beijing in second class. After arrival and a transfer to the city — an excursion to the Temple of Heaven with lunch in a Chinese cuisine restaurant. For an additional fee, a visit to the circus or Peking opera is possible. The day ends with check-in at the hotel.
Day 7
The main impression of the day is the Great Wall of China, to which they travel outside the city. After lunch in a suburban Chinese cuisine restaurant — the Dingling Tombs. This is a day of large-scale historical sites, contrasting with the city excursions of the previous days. Return to the hotel and free time.
Day 8
The last day — only breakfast at the hotel and check-out, then a transfer to the airport and departure home. The trip ends without excursions, leaving time to gather one's thoughts before the journey.
