About the programme

Five days in Istanbul are arranged so that the city reveals itself gradually: first you simply arrive and settle in, then you get acquainted with the Ottoman chapter of its history, then you look at it from above and from the water, and in the finale you descend into its densest, oldest part. Each day takes half a day — the sightseeing part is short and packed, and the second half remains free, and you can fill it to your own taste: with additional trips, shopping or simply walks.

The rhythm of the trip is calm. All four overnight stays are in one hotel, the suitcases do not move anywhere, and getting ready for excursions does not take much time. The half-day format means that you manage both to see things and to rest, and to return to the place that caught your attention.

The first two sightseeing days are about the empire: mosques, the Hippodrome, baths, palaces, gifts of foreign powers to the Ottoman capital. The third is about scale: the bridge between Europe and Asia, the panorama of the city, the Golden Horn bay, ancient walls. The fourth is about what remains of the grandeur in stone and gold: the Suleymaniye Mosque and the Dolmabahce Palace are no longer from the outside, but inside.

The city here is not a backdrop, but the main storyteller: it constantly shows how Byzantium, the Ottoman Empire and modernity coexist in one space. The tour will suit those who want to see Istanbul without a race and with a reserve of personal time — and those who like it when history is explained by a professional guide, and not by a guidebook.

The fifth day is farewell: a free morning, check-out from the hotel and a transfer to the airport. Air travel, insurance and personal expenses are not included in the tour program, so this part should be thought through in advance.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

Arrival day: you are met at the airport and taken to the hotel, where you leave your things and recover after the journey. No excursions — only accommodation and a first acquaintance with the city at your own pace. This is the freest day of the trip.

  2. Day 2

The main impression of the day is the Ottoman chapter of the history of Istanbul, seen in stone: the Blue Mosque with its tiles and the Hagia Sophia Mosque, which is viewed from the outside. Along the way — the Hippodrome, where competitions once boiled, and the German Fountain of Wilhelm, a gift from one empire to another. Another short stop — at the Hurrem Sultan Hammam, also from the outside; then there remains time for additional excursions and shopping. The pace is even, half a day is enough not to get tired.

  3. Day 3

This day is about scope: you cross the Bosphorus Bridge and find yourself on the other side of the strait, from where a panorama of the whole city opens up. Then — a walk along the Golden Horn and the Byzantine city walls, which for centuries protected Constantinople. The route is completed by the facade of the Dolmabahce Palace and a visit to a leather and fur factory. After that — free time, and this is a more "viewpoint" day than the previous one, with an emphasis on views, not on interiors.

  4. Day 4

A day about two peaks of Ottoman heritage: the Suleymaniye Mosque, where a combination of power and spirituality is felt, and the Dolmabahce Palace — this time inside, with gold, crystal and marble. Here history is no longer viewed from the outside, but surrounds you. The excursion takes half a day, the rest — at your discretion: additional trips or shopping. In pace this is the most packed of the sightseeing days.

  5. Day 5

The last day is given to free time: you can have a leisurely breakfast, walk around the district or return to what you remember. Then — check-out from the hotel and a transfer to the airport, where the trip ends. This is the calmest day of the route.
