About the programme

A trip through Uzbekistan unfolds as a leisurely journey through three cities, each of which speaks in its own voice. Bukhara greets you as a city where time seems to have stopped on the Silk Road: ancient walls, bazaar domes and the Kalyan Minaret, around which the whole life of the old city is built. Here there are two days, and this gives the opportunity to look at the details without haste.

Then the route leads to Samarkand — a museum city, where the architecture of the Middle Ages has been preserved in an almost untouched form. This is already a different intonation: more scale, more monumentality, but also more reasons to simply stand and look, without trying to remember everything at once.

Tashkent completes the trip as a contrast: a modern capital with a multilayered history, where an oriental bazaar and the metro coexist with palaces and squares. Here there is less antiquity in the usual sense, but more of a feeling of a living, working city.

The rhythm of the journey is measured: two days in Bukhara, a day for the transfer and getting to know Samarkand, another day there, then the way to Tashkent. One night in Bukhara before the excursions, then overnight stays in Samarkand and Tashkent. The transfers between cities are part of the route, they give time to look out of the window at the changing landscape.

The trip will suit those who want to see Uzbekistan without haste, with an interest in architecture, history and city life. Meals and entrance tickets to museums are at your own expense, and an individual transfer from the airport can be arranged for an additional fee.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

Arrival in Bukhara is the first breath of the trip. You are met at the airport and accommodated in a hotel, and then the city begins to speak for itself: Bukhara stands on the Silk Road, and its old center is recognized as a UNESCO heritage. Here mosques and madrasahs, ancient baths have been preserved, and above the city rises the Kalyan Minaret. The night passes in the hotel.

  2. Day 2

The day is fully given to Bukhara. This is a city that for centuries was one of the main centers of the Islamic world: here dozens of mosques and madrasahs have been preserved, as well as the Ark Fortress and ancient baths. On the excursion you will see the Samanid Mausoleum, the Chashma Ayub Mausoleum, the Bolo-Khauz Complex, the Ark Fortress, the Poi-Kalyan Complex, the Abdulaziz Khan Madrasah and the Ulugh Beg Madrasah — and this is only part of the route. Then — Lyabi-Khauz Square with a pond and the Kukeldash Madrasah and the Nadir Divan-Begi Madrasah, as well as the trading quarter of covered bazaars. Night in the hotel.

  3. Day 3

This is the day when Bukhara shows its country treasures, and then you say goodbye to the city. First — the Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa Palace, the summer residence of the last Bukhara emir, and the Bahauddin Naqshband Memorial Complex. After the excursion — a transfer to Samarkand, a city with the aura of the Asian Middle Ages. Accommodation in the hotel and free time: you can take a walk around Registan Square. Night in the hotel.

  4. Day 4

Samarkand is a city with more than 2750 years of history, and this day is dedicated to it entirely. The main impression is Registan Square with three madrasahs: Sher-Dor, Tillya-Kari and the Ulugh Beg Madrasah. You will also see the Gur-Emir Mausoleum, the Bibi-Khanym Mosque, the Shah-i-Zinda Ensemble and the Ulugh Beg Observatory Museum with a fragment of a giant sextant underground. Night in the hotel.

  5. Day 5

The transfer to Tashkent changes the scenery: instead of ancient madrasahs — a capital with multilayered architecture, where Zoroastrian monuments coexist with palaces and modern buildings. The excursion includes Khast-Imam Square, where the manuscript of the Uthman Quran is kept, the Barak-Khan Madrasah, the Kafal-al-Shashi Mazar Mausoleum, Independence Square, Amir Temur Square and the Tashkent metro. The oriental bazaars here are a separate pleasure. Night in the hotel.

  6. Day 6

The last day of the trip: breakfast, transfer to the Tashkent airport and the end of the program. There remains time to gather impressions — from the Kalyan Minaret to Registan Square — and to say goodbye to Uzbekistan.
