About the programme

This trip is a journey through three cities of Uzbekistan, where history can be read right on the streets. It all begins in Bukhara, an ancient city on the Great Silk Road, where more than 140 architectural monuments have been preserved: madrasahs, mosques, old merchant domes and baths that were used for centuries. The medieval part of Bukhara is recognized as a UNESCO heritage, and one can walk through it for hours, moving from one square to another.

The rhythm of the trip is built as follows: two days in Bukhara, then a transfer to Shahrisabz — the native city of Tamerlane, and from there to Samarkand, where the program continues for another two days. The road between the cities is also part of the impression: the landscapes change outside the window, and the route itself gradually reveals different eras and different rulers.

Bukhara is unhurried strolls among adobe walls and domes, shady courtyards of madrasahs and the noise of the bazaar. Shahrisabz is a more intimate city, green and quiet, with the ruins of a palace and tombs connected with the name of Tamerlane. Samarkand is the most monumental of the three: huge madrasahs on Registan Square, mausoleums and the cathedral mosque, next to which you feel the scale of the Timurid empire.

The fifth day is calmer: continuing to get acquainted with Samarkand takes half a day, and then free time remains to walk around the city on your own or simply rest. The sixth day is departure: a group transfer to the airport and the end of the program.

For whom this is: for those who want to see several cities in one trip, without rushing, with a guide and air-conditioned transport. Nights are spent in hotels, breakfasts are included, and the excursions are group ones. Flights are not included in the price, entrance tickets to the monuments and meals are also paid separately.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arrival in Bukhara and free time without excursions. The day passes at the rhythm you set yourself: you can rest after the road or simply go out for a walk along the streets to feel the atmosphere of the ancient city. Bukhara is one of the oldest cities in the world, and here there are more than 140 architectural monuments, among which are the Kalyan Minaret, the Ark Fortress and medieval baths. Night in the hotel.

  2. Day 2

    A full day in Bukhara with an excursion: the Samanid Mausoleum, Chashma Ayub, the Bolo-Khauz Complex, the Ark Fortress, Poi-Kalyan, the Abdulaziz Khan Madrasah and the Ulugbek Madrasah. The main impression is the transition from one era to another right during the walk. Then the Lyabi-Khauz Ensemble with a pond, the Kukeldash Madrasah and the Nadir Divan-Begi Madrasah, the monument to Khoja Nasreddin and the covered bazaars of the 16th century with craft workshops. Night in the hotel.

  3. Day 3

    Transfer to Shahrisabz, the native city of Tamerlane, and an excursion around it. Here it is worth seeing the ruins of the Ak-Saray Palace, which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, and the Dorut-Saodat memorial complex with the tomb of Timur, which remained empty. A few more stops: the Dorut-Tillyavat Ensemble and the Kok-Gumbaz Mosque. After the excursion — transfer to Samarkand. Night in the hotel.

  4. Day 4

    A day in Samarkand, a city of the same age as Rome and the capital of Tamerlane's empire. The main thing is Registan Square with three monumental madrasahs: Sher-Dor, Tillya-Kari and the Ulugbek Madrasah. Also in the program are the Gur-Emir Mausoleum, the Bibi-Khanym Cathedral Mosque, the Siab Bazaar and the Shahi-Zinda Ensemble of 11 medieval mausoleums. The day is packed, but the impressions are worth it. Night in the hotel.

  5. Day 5

    Continuing to get acquainted with Samarkand takes half a day: the Afrasiab History Museum by the ruins of the ancient settlement and the Ulugbek Observatory Museum, where part of a huge measuring instrument has survived in the thickness of the earth. After that — free time to walk around the city on your own or rest. Night in the hotel.

  6. Day 6

    Breakfast and a group transfer to the airport. The tour program ends, and you depart from Samarkand.
