About the programme

Seven days across Uzbekistan — from the ancient quarters of Bukhara through the hometown of Tamerlane to Samarkand and the capital. The route is made up of four cities, and each next one differs from the previous both in rhythm and in what it shows.

Bukhara opens the trip. Here everything breathes history: madrasahs, the Kalyan Minaret, the Ark Fortress, trading domes and the lively Lyabi-Hauz pond, around which everyday life revolves with cafes and craft shops. The first two days set a leisurely pace — one can get used to the city and to the eastern way of life.

Then the route goes to Shahrisabz, a green garden city with the ruins of the Ak-Saray Palace and the tombs of the Timurids. This is a day of transfers and contrasts: after dense Bukhara — a spacious province, and in the evening already Samarkand.

Two days are given to Samarkand. Registan Square, the Gur-Emir Mausoleum, the Bibi-Khanym Mosque, the Siab Bazaar and the Shahi-Zinda Ensemble — all this requires time and attention. The second Samarkand day adds museums — the history of Afrasiab and the Ulugh Beg Observatory — and a transfer to Tashkent.

The finale is the capital. The Old City with Hast-Imam Square, the Barak-Khan Madrasah, the Kafal-al-Shashi Mazar Mausoleum and the Chorsu Bazaar under a huge dome. Lunch at the Besh Qozon pilaf center and a walk around the center complete the trip. The tour is for those who want to see the country without haste and in different keys.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arrival in Bukhara. Free time without transport and excursion services — one can simply look around and rest after the journey. Night at the hotel.

  2. Day 2

    The first full day in Bukhara — a city tour. Among the stops — the Samanid Mausoleum with its Sogdian and Islamic architecture and the Poi-Kalyan Complex with the Abdulaziz-Khan Madrasah and the Ulugh Beg Madrasah. Then the Lyabi-Hauz Ensemble with the pond, the Kukeldash Madrasah and the Nadir Divan-Begi Madrasah, the monument to Khoja Nasreddin and the cafes around. A visit to the trading quarter of 16th-century covered bazaars. Night at the hotel.

  3. Day 3

    Transfer to Shahrisabz — the hometown of Tamerlane. Excursion: the ruins of the Ak-Saray Palace, the Dorus-Saodat Memorial Complex with the tomb of Timur and the Jahangir Mausoleum, the Dorut-Tillavat Ensemble and the Kok-Gumbaz Mosque. Then transfer to Samarkand. Night at the hotel.

  4. Day 4

    A day in Samarkand — the museum city of the Silk Road. Excursion around Registan Square with the Sher-Dor Madrasah, the Tillya-Kari Madrasah and the Ulugh Beg Madrasah, the Gur-Emir Mausoleum, the Bibi-Khanym Mosque, the Siab Bazaar and the Shahi-Zinda Ensemble of 11 mausoleums. Night at the hotel.

  5. Day 5

    Continued acquaintance with Samarkand: the Afrasiab History Museum by the ruins of the ancient settlement and the Ulugh Beg Observatory Museum with a fragment of the underground sextant. Then transfer to Tashkent — the capital with modern infrastructure and the atmospheric Old City. Night at the hotel.

  6. Day 6

    Excursion around Tashkent. The Old City: Hast-Imam Square with the Uthman Quran manuscript and the hair of the Prophet Muhammad, the Barak-Khan Madrasah and the Kafal-al-Shashi Mazar Mausoleum. A visit to the Chorsu Bazaar under a huge dome, a walk through the mahallas with adobe houses and narrow streets. Lunch at the Besh Qozon pilaf center, where 10 tons of pilaf are prepared daily. A walk around the central part of the city. Night at the hotel.

  7. Day 7

    The morning begins with breakfast, after which the group gathers and goes to the airport — the trip is coming to an end.
