About the programme

This is a journey through Uzbekistan, where the route is built as a leisurely movement from west to east: from Urgench and Khiva through the desert to Bukhara, then to Shahrisabz and, finally, to Samarkand. Eight days and seven nights — enough not to chase impressions, but to let each city sound separately. The rhythm changes: after a calm entry into Khiva and a rich walk through its streets comes a long journey across the sands, and then again dense sightseeing days in Bukhara and Samarkand.

The first half of the trip is Khiva and Bukhara, two cities with different characters. Khiva is compact and entirely enclosed within old walls, it is convenient to walk around it, returning to familiar places. Bukhara is wider and more diverse: here there are ancient tombs, and a fortress, and trading domes, and a square with a pond, around which life is in full swing. Between them — the road through the Kyzylkum along the Amu Darya, where the desert itself becomes part of the impression.

The second half is Shahrisabz and Samarkand. Shahrisabz takes by the scale of its design: the ruins of a palace, tombs, a mosque with a blue dome — all this tells about a time when the city was preparing to become a second capital. Samarkand gives two full days: one — through the main squares and ensembles, the second, shorter, — through museums connected with the ancient settlement and the observatory, and then free time remains.

The trip will suit those who love architecture and history and are ready for journeys: the road between cities takes a noticeable part of the day, but it also shows the country beyond the ceremonial squares. The international flight is not included in the price. Excursions and transport are organized, and tourists choose lunches and dinners themselves. Entrance tickets to monuments and museums are also paid separately, as is insurance. On request, an individual transfer instead of a group one is possible — for an additional payment.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

    The first day is arrival and a soft immersion: a meeting at the airport of Urgench and a group transfer to Khiva. Then time is given to oneself, without transport and excursions. Khiva is a city where the old inner city has been preserved almost entirely, and the very thought of this sets the mood of the trip.

  2. Day 2

    The day is entirely given to Khiva: breakfast, and then a long walk through Ichan-Kala, which feels like a living street of an eastern fairy tale. Among the stops — the Kunya-Ark fortress, the citadel of the rulers, and the Islam Khodja minaret, the highest in the city, from where a view of all Khiva opens. A few more madrasahs, mosques and palaces — and by the end of the day the city becomes familiar. Night at the hotel.

  3. Day 3

    This is a day of the road: from Khiva to Bukhara, through the Kyzylkum desert along the Amu Darya. The path goes along the same road along which caravans of the Silk Road once moved, and stops are planned along the way — one can walk along the reddish dunes. The Amu Darya river, one of the two largest in the region, also comes into view. In Bukhara — accommodation at the hotel and free time, one can look into souvenir shops and workshops.

  4. Day 4

    The most intense day of the first half of the trip — a tour of Bukhara, a city with more than 140 preserved monuments. Among them are the Ark fortress, the Poi-Kalyan complex with the Kalyan minaret and the Abdulaziz Khan madrasah with rich ornaments. A separate stop — the Lyabi-Hauz square with a pond, a madrasah and cafes, as well as the trading quarter of covered bazaars, where craft workshops operate. The pace is dense, but the city is worth it.

  5. Day 5

    A day of journeys and one bright city between them: from Bukhara to Shahrisabz, the native city of Tamerlane. Here — the ruins of the Ak-Saray palace, the Dorut-Saodat memorial complex with the tomb of Timur, which remained empty, and the Dorut-Tillyavat ensemble. The Kok-Gumbaz mosque with a blue dome completes the walk. Then a journey to Samarkand and a night at the hotel.

  6. Day 6

    The first of the two Samarkand days — about the main ensembles. The Registan square with three madrasahs, the Gur-Emir mausoleum, the Bibi-Khanum cathedral mosque, the Siab bazaar and the Shahi-Zinda ensemble of 11 mausoleums — all this adds up to the appearance of the city that was the heart of caravan trade. The day is long and full, but the impressions are worth it. Night at the hotel.

  7. Day 7

    The second Samarkand day is shorter and calmer: continuation of the excursion for half a day. The Afrasiab history museum at the ruins of the ancient settlement and the Ulugh Beg observatory museum, where a fragment of the angle-measuring instrument has been preserved, give another view of the city — not through ceremonial squares, but through archaeology and science. Then — free time. Night at the hotel.

  8. Day 8

    The final day begins with food, and then the group gathers and goes to the airport of Samarkand — the tour ends here. From here tourists fly home.
