About the programme

Uzbekistan on this trip is shown through three cities, and each of them sounds in its own way. Samarkand is an ancient capital where history is read directly in stone; Gijduvon is a small stop on the way where craft is passed from hand to hand; Bukhara is a city where the medieval center entirely lives its everyday life. The route takes five days and four nights, the flight is not included, and between the cities tourists travel by land.

The rhythm of the trip changes: the first day is arrival and free time without transport and sightseeing services, when one can simply look around. The second day is a long sightseeing tour of Samarkand, where in a short time several epochs pass before one's eyes. The third day is a drive with a stop in Gijduvon, and then an introduction to Bukhara. The fourth day is a continuation of the Bukhara sightseeing tour, calmer and more focused. The fifth day is the end of the program and a group transfer to the airport.

This tour is suitable for those who want to see the main cities of the Silk Road without haste, but also without unnecessary stops. The road between Samarkand and Bukhara takes part of the day, but in Gijduvon there is an opportunity to look into the house of ceramicists and understand how the pottery art is born. The sightseeing tours are group, the transport is air-conditioned, and on sightseeing days mineral water is provided. Entrance tickets to monuments and museums, as well as lunches and dinners, are not included in the price — this is worth considering when planning.

The nights are spent in hotels with breakfast. Samarkand welcomes with two nights, Bukhara with two more. Between them is the drive through Gijduvon, which becomes not just a transit but a separate impression: lunch in the house of ceramicists with a tasting of kebabs is remembered for a long time. Overall, the trip gives an idea of different facets of Uzbekistan: from ceremonial ensembles to quiet courtyards and covered bazaars.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

Arrival in Samarkand and free time without transport and sightseeing services. This is a day when one can take one's time: the city itself is the ancient capital of Sogdiana, and even a simple walk along the streets lets one feel its atmosphere. Night in the hotel.

  2. Day 2

The most packed day of the trip: a sightseeing tour of Samarkand. The main impression is Registan Square with three madrasahs, which sets the scale for the whole city. Then the Gur-Emir Mausoleum, the Bibi-Khanym Mosque and the Shah-i-Zinda Ensemble. A few more stops are the Siab Bazaar and the Ulugh Beg Observatory Museum. The pace is fast, but it allows one to see the main things in one day.

  3. Day 3

Drive from Samarkand to Bukhara with a stop in Gijduvon. Here is a visit to the house of the Narzullayev family, an introduction to the pottery school and lunch with a tasting of kebabs. Upon arrival in Bukhara, accommodation and a sightseeing tour: the Lyabi-Hauz Ensemble with the pond and the monument to Khoja Nasreddin, as well as the trading quarter of covered bazaars. The day combines the road, craft and a first introduction to Bukhara.

  4. Day 4

Continuation of the sightseeing tour of Bukhara. The focus is the Samanid Mausoleum and the Poi-Kalyan Complex with the Kalyan Minaret. Separately, it is worth seeing the Ark Fortress and the Abdulaziz Khan Madrasah with rich ornaments. The day is more measured than the previous one: fewer drives, more time to examine details.

  5. Day 5

Breakfast and a group transfer to Bukhara Airport. The tour program ends, but the impressions of three cities remain. This is a day of farewell to Uzbekistan.
