About the programme

Eight days across Uzbekistan is a route from the capital to ancient cities, through the desert and back. You will start in Tashkent, see Samarkand, look into Gijduvon, spend time in Bukhara, reach Khiva and return to Tashkent. Overnights are in hotels, transfers are by comfortable transport, and between Urgench and Tashkent a flight awaits you.

The rhythm of the trip changes: the first days are an introduction to the capital and a transfer to Samarkand, then rich excursions through the ancient cities, and after Bukhara a long journey through the Kyzylkum Desert to Khiva. This is a tour for those who want to see different facets of Uzbekistan: from the multifaceted modern architecture of Tashkent to the appearance of Khiva almost untouched by time.

Each day differs from the previous one. Somewhere you immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Old City, somewhere you try the famous pilaf, and somewhere you walk along the dunes under the panorama of the Amu Darya. The program includes group excursions with a guide, lunches in colorful places and several free hours. The international flight is not included in the price, and entrance tickets to monuments and museums are paid separately.

This trip will suit those who are not afraid of long transfers and want to cover the main cities of the Silk Road in one trip. You will see not only architectural monuments, but also craft traditions, try the local cuisine and feel the rhythm of the eastern bazaar.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

Arrival in Tashkent, meeting at the airport and accommodation in a hotel. Free time without excursions — you can walk around the modern part of the city. Tashkent surprises with its diversity: here there are ancient monuments, and medieval masterpieces, and new buildings. Night in a hotel.

  2. Day 2

Excursion around the Old City: Hast Imam Square, where ancient relics are kept, the Barak Khan Madrasah and the Kafal-al-Shashi Mazar Mausoleum. Then the Chorsu Bazaar, where under the dome you can buy spices and souvenirs. Lunch at the Besh Qozon pilaf center. Transfer to Samarkand — the former capital of Tamerlane's empire. Night in a hotel.

  3. Day 3

The day is dedicated to Samarkand: Registan Square with three madrasahs, the Gur-Emir Mausoleum, the Bibi-Khanym Mosque and the Siab Bazaar. You will also see the Shahi-Zinda ensemble and the Ulugh Beg Observatory Museum with a fragment of a sextant. This is the most intense excursion day of the trip. Night in a hotel.

  4. Day 4

Transfer to Gijduvon, where the house of the Narzullaev family — hereditary ceramicists — awaits you. Introduction to the pottery school and lunch with a tasting of kebabs. Then transfer to Bukhara, accommodation and an excursion to the Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa country palace. After that — a walk around the Lyabi-Khauz ensemble and the trading domes. Night in a hotel.

  5. Day 5

Continued introduction to Bukhara: the Samanid Mausoleum, Chashma Ayub, the Bolo-Khauz complex and the Ark Fortress. You will see the Poi-Kalyan complex with the Kalyan Minaret, the Abdulaziz Khan Madrasah and the Ulugh Beg Madrasah. This day is an immersion in medieval architecture and history. Night in a hotel.

  6. Day 6

A long transfer to Khiva through the Kyzylkum Desert along the Amu Darya River. On the way — stops and walks along the dunes with a view of the river. Arrival in Khiva and a walk around Itchan Kala — the inner part of the Old Khiva, surrounded by a powerful wall. Night in a hotel.

  7. Day 7

Excursion around Khiva: the Pakhlavan Mahmud complex, the Kunya-Ark Fortress, the Islam Khodja Minaret, the Tash Hauli Palace. You will also see the Allakuli Khan Madrasah with a museum of medicine, the Juma Mosque and the Muhammad Amin Khan Madrasah. Transfer to Urgench airport and an evening flight to Tashkent. Night in a hotel.

  8. Day 8

After breakfast the group goes to Tashkent airport, and here the trip ends.
