About the programme

This trip unfolds as a leisurely acquaintance with northern Vietnam: the capital, rice valleys and rocks rising straight out of the water. Just a week — and during this time the route manages to change several characters: urban bustle for the silence of karst lagoons, and the plain for the coolness of the highlands.

The first days are dedicated to Hanoi and Ninh Binh province. Here a lot of time is spent on the water: a boat goes through a series of caves and underground lakes, and around rise limestone cliffs covered with greenery. A walk through the old quarters of the capital sets a different rhythm — slow, on foot, with dinner at the end. Then the path goes into the mountains.

Sapa is altitude, coolness and a different culture. The road there takes almost a whole day, but further on you are awaited by a cable car to the summit of Fansipan, villages of local tribes and a traditional lunch. Here the pace slows down: there is time both for a walk and for shopping.

The final chord is a cruise on Halong Bay and Lan Ha Bay. A night on a ship among the rocks is a separate experience: dinner on board, caves with an inner lake and sunrise over the bay. In the morning — kayaks and tai chi gymnastics on deck.

Such a route is chosen by those for whom it is important to see Northern Vietnam in full, without haste, and who are ready for car journeys. There is one night on the road — the remaining five are in hotels.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

The day begins with a meeting at Hanoi airport: you are accompanied through visa and border formalities, then — a transfer to the hotel and rest after the flight. If the arrival allows, you are awaited by a walking tour of the city's ancient quarters. The day ends with dinner.

  2. Day 2

After breakfast — a journey to Ninh Binh province. The main impression of the day is a boat ride from Trang An pier: it goes through connected caves and underground lakes, whose names are Darkness, Light, Sheo, Nauyruou, Three Drops and others. Then a visit to Hoa Lu — a place connected with the first Vietnamese dynasties. Return to Hanoi.

  3. Day 3

Breakfast at the hotel, and the road leads to Sapa — a town at an altitude of 1600 meters above sea level. The journey takes about six hours. On arrival — accommodation and lunch, then free time, which can be devoted to shopping.

  4. Day 4

This is a day of the highlands. After breakfast — an ascent to Fansipan mountain: there is nothing higher than this point in Indochina, and the cable car here is one of the longest in the world. Then a descent and acquaintance with local tribes: Cat Cat village, where black Hmong live, as well as Ta Van and Lao Chai. Lunch on this day is especially traditional.

  5. Day 5

After breakfast — a walk in Ham Rong park; those who wish can climb Ham Rong mountain. Then — Tram Ton pass and a photo stop at Thac Bac waterfall. After lunch — return to Hanoi.

  6. Day 6

After breakfast — a journey to Halong Bay and boarding a cruise ship. Accommodation in cabins and departure into Halong Bay, recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site. Lunch with fresh seafood on board, then — a descent into grottoes with a lake inside, where dark and light halls alternate. Night on the ship, meals on board: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  7. Day 7

In the morning according to schedule — tai chi gymnastics on the upper deck, then a light breakfast in the ship's restaurant. Further — a water excursion on kayaks: Tra Bau bay is squeezed by sheer walls, and their outlines are new every time. Then check-out from the cabins, the end of the cruise and return to Hanoi. From there — a transfer to the airport for departure home; continuation of the journey is possible for an additional payment.
