Went to Phu Quoc, was happy with it. Hotel good, sea warm, but had to grab a sunbed by the pool in the morning, otherwise all taken. Overall for that money a great option, came back tanned and calm.

Beach holidays in Vietnam mean a warm sea from December to April, a flight from Almaty with one transfer and resorts for every taste: Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Da Nang, Mui Ne, Hoi An. High season lasts from December to March, when the south is dry and sunny. A trip usually takes 7–14 days, and the budget depends on the resort and season.
A holiday in this country begins with preparing paperwork, and here it is important not to miss anything. Let's break down what needs to be collected before departure from Almaty.
Citizens of Kazakhstan can stay in Vietnam without obtaining a permit for up to 30 days. Such a holiday is available with a valid travel document with at least six months remaining at the time of the trip. Exact entry conditions should be checked before buying a tour, as the rules change periodically. For a longer stay, the relevant permit must be obtained in advance. Beach holidays at popular resorts usually fit within the standard thirty days. If you plan to stay longer, it is better to take care of this in advance, even before departure from Almaty.
A holiday on Vietnamese beaches rarely goes without minor incidents, so it is better to take out a policy with a margin. Medical insurance with coverage from 50,000 dollars is required for entry, and its presence is checked selectively. A return ticket or a ticket to a third country is also mandatory — without it, you may not be allowed on the flight already at Almaty airport. Copies of the hotel booking and itinerary should be kept at hand on your phone. Checks at the border usually take a few minutes if the documents are in order. Local entry rules may be adjusted, so before departure check the current information.
Financial matters and movement around the country are handled on site, and there are their own subtleties here. Let's break down how not to overpay and stay connected.
It is more profitable to exchange Vietnamese dong in jewelry stores or banks, not at the airport — the rate there is noticeably worse. ATMs often charge a commission of about 3–5% and have a limit on withdrawal at one time, so it is better to bring large sums in cash. Many hotels and guesthouses accept cards only with a surcharge or require cash altogether. Beach holidays in Nha Trang and Phu Quoc are more convenient to plan with a reserve of cash for the first days. Small notes will come in handy for taxis, cafes and markets. Exchanging with private money changers on the street is risky due to counterfeits and fraud — use banks or trusted points.
A local Viettel or Mobifone SIM card with a 30-day tourist tariff is inexpensive and provides good internet even on the islands. Motorbike rental is a popular way to get around, but driving requires a license with category A, and international licenses are often not recognized. Beach holidays in Mui Ne or Hoi An without a motorbike limit mobility, although you can manage with taxis and walks. When arranging a rental, check the condition of the vehicle and record damage in photos. A helmet is mandatory, and fines for not wearing one are issued on the spot. For short trips around the resort, it is often more profitable to arrange with a local driver.
Vietnam's climate varies by region, and much depends on the month of the trip. Let's break down when it is better to plan beach holidays and what to prepare for.
High season from December to March is the best time for beach holidays in Vietnam. Hotels on the coast are booked up 2–3 months in advance, especially on Phu Quoc and in Nha Trang. Many hotels require prepayment and do not refund it upon cancellation, so check the booking conditions in advance.
| Resort | Peak season | Feature |
|---|---|---|
| Nha Trang | January–March | Many Russian-speaking tourists |
| Phu Quoc | December–February | More expensive, but quieter |
| Mui Ne | November–April | Windy, loved by kitesurfers |
| Da Nang | February–April | Convenient for excursions |
It is worth booking several months in advance if you are traveling during holidays. At other times, the choice is wider and prices are lower.
Vietnamese New Year in late January — early February paralyzes transport and closes some establishments, so it is better not to plan a trip for these dates. The rainy season in the south lasts from May to October, but downpours are usually short and do not interfere with swimming. In Da Nang and Hoi An during typhoon season from September to November, flight cancellations and storm warnings are possible. Beach holidays in these months should be planned with extra time and flexible dates. Follow the forecasts and do not ignore warnings from local services. If you are going for a calm sea, choose a period outside the storm season.
Gastronomy and safety at the resort are an important part of the trip. Let's break down what should be taken into account so that the holiday is not overshadowed.
Vietnamese street food is safe in crowded places, but it is better not to take raw greens and unpeeled fruit from street stalls. The cuisine is spicy and specific — tourists from Kazakhstan should check the composition of dishes in advance if they have dietary restrictions. Beach holidays in Nha Trang or Da Nang can easily be combined with tasting local soups and seafood. Choose establishments with high foot traffic — the products there are fresher. Water should be drunk only from bottles, and check with the staff about ice in drinks. Familiar dishes can be found in tourist areas, but authentic flavors are at the markets.
Vietnamese beaches sometimes have strong currents and jellyfish in certain months — it is worth checking with locals before swimming. Medical care in tourist areas is available, but quality varies, so insurance is mandatory. Beach holidays on Phu Quoc and in Mui Ne require attention to flags and lifeguard warnings. It is better to take a first aid kit with basic remedies with you from Almaty. For serious symptoms, contact international clinics in major cities. Do not swim alone or in unfamiliar places, especially during the rainy season.
A trip from Almaty has its own specifics that are worth knowing in advance. Let us look at everyday and cultural nuances.
Tipping in Vietnam is not mandatory, but in tourist areas it is often expected — 5–10% of the bill. Bargaining is appropriate in markets and small shops, but not in hotels and restaurants with fixed prices. Beach holidays in Hoi An or Nha Trang require a respectful attitude toward local traditions, especially in temples. Do not raise your voice or show irritation — it will not help in an argument. A smile and calmness solve most everyday issues. Take off your shoes when entering homes and some establishments.
For a trip to the south of the country, to Phu Quoc or Mui Ne, light clothing is enough, but for the north, to Da Nang and Hoi An, a jacket may be needed in winter. Holidays by the sea here require sunscreen, a hat and comfortable shoes for walking. In the evening, it is cool in tourist areas, so a light cover-up will not hurt. Take mosquito repellents and remedies for sunburn. When going on excursions, take a change of clothes — after rain, things take a long time to dry. Keep documents and money in different places so as not to lose everything at once.

It depends on the resort: the south is good in winter, the center — in spring and summer.
Usually from twelve hours with one connection.
Nha Trang or Da Nang — clear infrastructure and the sea nearby.
Yes, there are quiet bays and calm water.
Mui Ne is windy and smaller, Nha Trang is larger and livelier.
The sea is nearby, but the city is interesting in itself.
Warm almost all year round, comfortable for swimming.
In the south it is more often calm, in Mui Ne there is wind and waves.
Rice, soups, seafood, fruit and greens.
A light sweater is enough in the evening.
Each region has its own season, the south is dry in winter.
Yes, domestic flights are short.

Thank you! We have taken note of your feedback.
Bought a tour to Da Nang through a Kazakh agency, and it turned out to be the best decision of the year... Hotel near the beach, the water is warm even in December, every evening I walked along the shore and couldn't get enough of the salty air, although food prices in touristy places bite, to be honest.
took a tour to Phu Quoc last minute, well i mean spontaneously, on a deal. hotel is fine, sea warm like a bath, though i had to guard a lounger by the pool from seven in the morning — dont like that. breakfasts are same every day, but i cut the mango myself, with a knife from the shared table, its so dull omg. one time i forgot sunscreen and got burned so bad... that i slept on my stomach for three nights, husband was cracking up. came back happy anyway, sand in my feet, shells and a dragon magnet in my suitcase
Thank you for writing. We've shared your words with the whole team.
Went to Mui Ne for two weeks, hotel was okay, but the AC hummed like a tractor at night. The manager sorted everything out quick without extra chit-chat, though at the reception we then had to wait an hour and a half for check-in because the room was still being cleaned. Sea was warm, sand white, though one time on the beach the sell wore me out— but that's small stuff, would come back again, honestly)

booked it for the sea and just to lie around for a week, and friends recommended Hoi An to me and my wife, though we actually wanted another place first... The manager sorted everything out fast, no unnecessary chit-chat, and there we were - warm beach, water like milk, but those plastic loungers, creaky, some nonsense always digging into your back in the mornings i went to the market for fruit, haggled kind of badly, once bought a whole bag of mangosteens and threw out half because they turned out wrong) in the old town those colorful little lanterns, anyway came back happy, tanned, wife is already asking where next time

wanted to just lie on the beach, but my friend talked me into an excursion to Hoi An – well i agreed, though i usually can't stand these kinds of outings. the town turned out pretty cute, though it was hot as a sauna, but i bought a silk robe there for pennies and ate some local noodles with a weird name) on the way back we were tired but happy, and i kept thinking i should've taken that bamboo fan too, the one i was turning over in my hands and didn't want to spend the money on
Priehal v Nyachang otdyhat, potomu chto nuzhno bylo razvejatsya posle raboty i smenit obstanovku, da i more hotelos. Sotrudniki v agentstve vse bystro oformili, hotel horoshij, more teploe, eda vkusnaya, hotya para raz byla slishkom ostraya dlya menya. Otdohnul otlichno, vernulsya s svezhej golovoj i uzhe planiruyu sleduyushchuyu poezdku.
Took a tour for a beach holiday in Hoi An, the hotel was normal, but the AC in the room rattled like an old fridge. The beach is clean, the water is warm, the sunbeds are literally right next to each other, and local sellers walked around offering all sorts of things, but not pushy. Food is a whole different story, pho and grilled seafood every day, though one time the spicy seasoning was so hot I thought that's it, the end. The tour to the old town was nice, narrow streets, lanterns, silk feels pleasant to the touch, but too many people by the evening. Came back tanned and happy, a five for sure, despite some roughh edges.

Went on a work trip, then decided to stay for a week and booked a beach tour. The manager picked a hotel with a decent pool, sea view and breakfast, though when I arrived the AC in the room rattled so bad I had to sleep with the balcony open.

Thank you for your feedback. We have taken your comment into account and are working on it.
went to Phu Quoc in November and didn't regret a single minute, booked the hotel through our agency in Almaty and everything went smoothly... though I waited about forty minutes for the airport transfer under the scorching sun, but then the sea, white warm sand, I grabbed a sunbed by the pool from early morning, in the evening grilled shrimp for pennies and mango smoothie in a plastic cup that kept sticking to my hands from the juice rating 5 out of 5, would go back there tomorrow, just pack lighter because I bought so many souvenirs and barely dragged my suitcase to the check-in desk

Poehala v Danang ot/do ne bylo, hotela prosto polezhat na plyazhe i ni o chem ne dumat, tuda i vzala. Otdohnula na pyat s plyusom, more teploe, lezhaki udobnye, no neskolko raz menyala mestopolozhenie iz-za vetra.
we went to Mui Ne, so. i'm not really one for beach vacations, but at work they gave me a package through some agency — either in honor of something or they just handed out whatever was left, i never really figured it out. the hotel was fine, though the ac hummed like a tractor and i had to sleep under the fan. the beach is wide, the sand fine — in the morning it's still cool, but by noon it's so hot you can't walk barefoot and you have to run to the sunbed. on the first day i got burned, the skin peeled off in strips later (it was funny) even though i put on sunscreen i think. the food — well, food, lots of rice, seafood fresh but sometimes spicy to the point of tears. what stuck with me is how a local guy sold me a coconut right with a straw, and i sat on the curb and drank it for about twenty minutes without thinking about anything on the way back i flew at night, at the airport everything as usual — duty free, coffee, waiting. came back happy, though i probably won't go there again
arrived in Mui Ne and the first days just slept it off on the beach, the sunbed creaky, sand gets everywhere, but the sea warm like a bathtub and I wasn't rushing anywhere. The manager tipped me off about a cafe with decent coffee, thanks for that, though the transfer there and back was a bit odd, waited forty minutes for the bus under the scorching sun. came back tanned, happy, would go again
booked a tour for a beach vacation in Da Nang — just wanted to lie on the sand after a year of work with no vacation. at the agency they suggested a hotel across the road from the sea, well i agreed without thinking. in reality the road turned out to be not as short as they drew it, about ten minutes if you dont hurry, but the beach is clean and the loungers free. the food was ok, but the coffee in the morning was disgusting — some kind of instant, even though its Vietnam, the birthplace of coffee!! also the AC in the room hummed like an airplane, had to sleep with the balcony open. the sea is warm, the Vietnamese are friendly, came back tanned and with a magnet for the fridge)
Bought a tour at the agency for ten nights, Da Nang is really something else. The sea is warm like a bath, the sand is white and very fine, you lie there and don't want to go anywhere. The hotel was decent, breakfasts edible, but the sunbeds by the pool are always taken... that was annoying honestly. Went to the market for fruit - mango, dragon fruit, all tasty, haggling is useless, you just waste time. Overall the trip was a success, came back tanned and hapopy.

Went to the travel agency to book a trip to Mui Ne, since I just wanted to lie on the beach and not think about logistics. Overall I was satisfied: the sea is warm, the sunbeds at the hotel are comfy, but that road from the airport to Mui Ne itself — four hours on a bus, even though on the map it doesn't seem that far... And the local seafood cafes almost every day put my stomach to the test (in a good way), and the hotel staff were mostly friendly, though the cleaning was sometimes late.
Beach vacation in Nha Trang was exactly what I needed after a long year without any time off. The manager found a hotel right by the sea, and I came back happy, even though at first I had doubts about both the season and the flight.
went to Nha Trang for my husband's work — he was there for a project, and I just tagged along. there were options to go with locals, but the manager sorted everything out in one evening and never dropped the ball once the whole trip. hotel well we took a four-star by the sea. breakfast the omlet was a bit runny, but whatever. the sea is warm like a bathtub, I didn't get out for an hour. the sunbed by the pool had to be claimed in the morning, I'd toss my own towel on it, everyone of ours did that, I got used to it fast. rains came in September but short. my son bought a bunch of shells, I bought coffee in sachets, we brought home half a suitcase. would come back again
