Tours to Uzbekistan: what to know
There are no direct flights from Aktobe to Uzbekistan, so the journey takes a full day and goes through Almaty or overland through Shymkent. The most convenient way is to fly: Aktobe — Almaty takes about two hours, then another hour and a half to Tashkent. The best months for a trip are April, May and September, when it is warm but not stuffy. It is worth setting aside at least a week to explore Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva.
How to get to Uzbekistan from Aktobe?
The journey from Aktobe to Uzbekistan almost always involves a transfer or connection. There are no direct flights here, so tours to Uzbekistan from Aktobe are arranged through Almaty or overland through Shymkent.
Connecting flight through Almaty
The most convenient way is to fly through Almaty, where flights to Tashkent depart daily and are inexpensive. The flight Aktobe — Almaty takes about two hours, and the layover at the airport usually stretches over several hours. In total, the journey from home to the Uzbek capital takes one full day. Morning departures from Aktobe are more convenient: the traveller catches the evening flight to Tashkent and is at the hotel by night. This option is the most frequently chosen for tours to Uzbekistan from Aktobe. A holiday in Uzbekistan then begins without fatigue.
Overland route through Shymkent
Buses and cars from Aktobe to Shymkent take more than a day, and this should be taken into account. Then from Shymkent to Tashkent there are several more hours along the highway. The overland route is cheaper than a plane ticket, but takes two days in one direction. For a short vacation this option is unprofitable: time is spent on the road, not on exploring cities. Buses depart from the bus station, and seats are best booked in advance. Night journeys are tiring, but they save a day. If the vacation is long and the budget is limited, the route through Shymkent is justified. A holiday in Uzbekistan in this case begins at the Uzbek border.
Documents and entry rules for Kazakhstanis
Entry rules change, so before a trip they are checked on the agency's website. Below is only what does not depend on the date.
Internal passport and ID card instead of a visa
Citizens of Kazakhstan do not need a visa to Uzbekistan, and this simplifies preparations. An internal passport or ID card is sufficient; a foreign passport is not required. The period of stay without registration is limited, so a long trip is planned taking this rule into account. Children need their own document, not an entry in a parent's passport. Copies of the document should be kept separately from the original. Current terms and requirements are checked on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan (https://mfa.uz, checked on 01.02.2026). Tours to Uzbekistan from Aktobe are arranged in advance taking these rules into account. A holiday in Uzbekistan is then not overshadowed by formalities at the border.
| What is needed | For whom |
|---|---|
| No visa needed | Citizens of Kazakhstan |
| Internal passport or ID card | Citizens of Kazakhstan |
| Foreign passport not required | Citizens of Kazakhstan |
| Own document | Children |
| Copies of the document | Travellers |
| Checking terms and requirements | On the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan |
Registration at the place of stay
If a traveller stays at a hotel, the hotel arranges registration on their behalf. In private accommodation the host is obliged to register the guest, and this should be agreed in advance. Without registration, questions at the border are possible upon departure. The host must be given the document data on the day of check-in. It is better to keep the registration receipt until the end of the trip. The rules and terms are clarified on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan (https://mvd.uz, checked on 01.02.2026). Tours to Uzbekistan from Aktobe with hotel accommodation remove this issue. A holiday in Uzbekistan goes more smoothly when the documents are in order.
When is it better to plan a holiday in Uzbekistan?
The Uzbek climate is sharply continental: summer is scorching, spring and autumn are mild. The choice of month determines how comfortable the sightseeing will be.
| Season | Temperature | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | +18…+25 | Mild, everything blooms | Rain in March |
| Summer | +35…+42 | Plenty of fruit | Heat, little shade |
| Autumn | +18…+27 | Warm, harvest | Crowded in October |
| Winter | +3…+10 | Few tourists | Cold evenings |
Hot season and mild spring
The most pleasant months for a trip are April, May and September. During this time in Samarkand and Bukhara it is warm but not stuffy, and one can walk through the madrasahs all day. In summer the air heats up to forty degrees, and sightseeing is moved to the morning. In winter it is cool in Tashkent, but there are no queues and prices are lower. In spring there is still snow in the mountains, while the valleys are already green. Many consider a holiday in Uzbekistan in spring the best option. Tours to Uzbekistan from Aktobe for the May dates are booked up earliest of all.
High tourist season and accommodation booking
Peak demand falls on April, May and September-October. In Samarkand and Bukhara good hotels are taken several weeks in advance. Accommodation should be booked right after buying tickets. In Khiva the choice is more modest, so there it is especially important not to delay. Prices in high season are higher, but the choice of excursions is also wider. If the dates are flexible, it is worth looking at June or early October. A holiday in Uzbekistan in the shoulder season costs less. Such trips for the holidays are booked a month or more in advance.
How to get around between cities
Trains, buses and minibuses run between Uzbek cities. For a traveller, speed and comfort matter, not just the ticket price.
High-speed trains to Samarkand and Bukhara
The Afrosiyob train links Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara and saves a whole day. From the capital to Samarkand it takes about two hours, to Bukhara — around four. Tickets are sold on the railway website and at ticket offices, and seats are taken quickly. The carriages have air conditioning, there are sockets and a luggage rack. Morning departures are convenient: by the opening of the madrasahs the traveller is already there. Samarkand and Bukhara are linked by the same trains. A holiday in Uzbekistan by train goes without road jolting.
The road to Khiva and budget minibuses
From Bukhara to Khiva there is a train, as well as buses and cars. The distance is long, so a day trip there and back is tiring. It is better to spend the night in Khiva and calmly walk around Ichon-Qala. Minibuses between cities are cheaper than the train, but slower and more crowded. They depart when full, and the schedule is unreliable. For short transfers this option works, for long ones it does not. Tours to Uzbekistan from Aktobe usually include train transfers. Holidays in Uzbekistan only benefit from this.
What a tourist should keep in mind on the spot
Everyday little things in a foreign country matter more than it seems. Below are the things a tourist usually learns about on the second day.
Money, currency exchange and card payment
The national currency is the soum, and the rate is better in banks or official exchange offices. It is not worth changing money with private individuals on the street: the rate is worse and there are no guarantees. Cards from Kazakh banks are not accepted everywhere, especially outside Tashkent. In bazaars and small chaikhanas payment is cash only. Small banknotes will come in handy for taxis and buying flatbreads. Large sums are better not carried in one place. Holidays in Uzbekistan are calmer when cash soums are at hand. Trips from Aktobe do not include exchange; it is done on the spot.
Chaikhanas, bazaars and local cuisine
Uzbek cuisine differs by region, and it is worth trying. Samarkand is famous for its flatbreads and pilaf, Bukhara has its own versions of dishes. Tashkent has many chaikhanas where you can have an inexpensive lunch and wait out the heat. Bazaars sell spices, ceramics, fabrics and dried fruits. Haggling is customary here, especially when buying several items. Pilaf in a chaikhana is cheaper than in a hotel restaurant. It is better to try street food where it is cooked in front of you. Holidays in Uzbekistan are incomplete without Uzbek cuisine. Such trips leave time for lunches like these.
Shoes, photography and rules of behavior
In old cities there are many walking routes over stone, so comfortable shoes are needed. In summer a hat and water will be needed. In some mosques and mausoleums photography is not allowed or you need to ask an attendant. Women are sometimes offered a headscarf at the entrance. Loud conversations near shrines are inappropriate, and clothing should be modest. It is not worth drinking tap water even in a hotel. Holidays in Uzbekistan require respect for local customs.
Briefly
- There are no direct flights from Aktobe; the route goes through Almaty or overland through Shymkent.
- A flight through Almaty takes a whole day; the overland route takes more than a day.
- The best time for a trip is April, May and September, when it is warm and not stuffy.
- Accommodation in Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva is booked several weeks before the date.
- Between cities it is more convenient to travel by train, and in bazaars you need cash soums.
