Tours to Vietnam: what to know
Tours to Vietnam from Uralsk are arranged via Almaty: the international segment starts only from there, and from Uralsk to Almaty travelers get by plane or train. There are few direct flights to Vietnam, connections are offered more often. Then the route leads to Cam Ranh, Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi, from where tourists disperse to the resorts. The season is chosen for a specific city: in the south and in the center the rains fall in different months.
When to go and how to get to Vietnam from Uralsk?
Such trips from Uralsk begin with a flight to Almaty, because the international segment starts only from there. Then the route depends on the season and the chosen resort.
Route logistics via Almaty
From Uralsk to Almaty travelers get by plane or train, and this is the first leg of any route. Having arrived in Hanoi, they reach the beaches by domestic flight. When planning a holiday in Vietnam, allow a day for the journey in each direction.
Seasonal windows for different regions of the country
The rainy season in the south and in the center does not coincide, and this is the main rule when choosing a date. In Nha Trang the dry period falls on February–August, and in autumn the rains begin. On Phu Quoc it is the opposite: from November to April the weather is dry, and in summer it pours. Da Nang and Hoi An are best visited from February to May. Typhoons more often occur in October–November in the central part, including Da Nang and Hoi An. Mui Ne and Phan Thiet are comfortable almost all year round, but in high season hotels by the sea are booked up in advance. Vung Tau and Phan Rang are suitable for a trip in the same months as the southern resorts.
Documents, money and medical preparation
Preparation for the trip includes financial and medical matters. They should be settled before buying the tour.
Visa, passport and return ticket
Entry formalities are important to clarify in advance, because the rules change. The current document requirements for citizens of Kazakhstan should be checked on the website of the consulate of Vietnam before the trip. A return ticket and passport validity are standard conditions that the carrier checks at boarding. Medical insurance with coverage from 10,000 dollars is formally not mandatory, but in case of hospitalization the tourist pays the bill. Vaccinations against hepatitis A and typhoid fever are recommended to be done in advance. Malaria tablets are needed only for remote areas; at the resorts of Nha Trang or Phu Quoc they are not required.
Exchanging dong, ATMs and insurance
Vietnamese dong is better exchanged in small amounts so as not to be left with extra banknotes. The rate at the airport of Cam Ranh and Hanoi is usually less favorable than in the city. ATMs accept Visa and Mastercard cards, but for cash withdrawal they charge a commission both the local bank and yours. In hotels of Nha Trang, Da Nang and Phu Quoc payment is more often in dong, but dollars are also accepted at an unfavorable rate. Medical insurance with coverage from 10,000 dollars is formally not mandatory, but in case of hospitalization the tourist pays the bill.
| What to compare | Dong | Dollars |
|---|---|---|
| Rate at the hotel | Normal | Understated |
| Rate in the city | Favorable | Average |
| Rate at the airport | Low | Low |
| Small purchases | Convenient | Inconvenient |
How to choose a resort for your request?
The resorts of Vietnam differ in weather, prices and infrastructure. The choice depends on what you expect from the holiday.
Beaches of the south and center: Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Da Nang
Nha Trang is suitable for those who want a long embankment and many cafes. Phu Quoc is an island with white sand and calm water, domestic flights fly there. Da Nang is convenient as a base for trips to Hoi An, which is about half an hour away by car. In Cam Ranh there is an international airport receiving charters. Phan Rang is a quiet city with a fishing port and sandy beaches. All these destinations are suitable for beach holidays, but differ in the richness of entertainment.
| Resort | Season | Character |
|---|---|---|
| Nha Trang | February–August | City beach |
| Phu Quoc | November–April | Island |
| Da Nang | February–May | City and excursions |
| Mui Ne | All year round | Windy, kite |
| Phan Thiet | All year round | Calm |
Calm bays and cities: Mui Ne, Phan Thiet, Vung Tau
Mui Ne is known for wind and kitesurfing, people come here for active holidays. Phan Thiet is quieter, there are more family hotels and long empty beaches. Vung Tau is a port city with an embankment and seafood restaurants. In high season from December to March hotels by the sea in Mui Ne and Phan Thiet are booked up in advance, so it is worth booking several months ahead. Holidays in Vietnam in these cities cost less than in Nha Trang or Da Nang.
Northern destinations: Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City
Hanoi is a capital with lakes, an old quarter and street cafes. Ho Chi Minh City is larger and more modern, from here it is convenient to go to the Mekong Delta. Both cities are not suitable for beach holidays, but are good as the start of a route. From Hanoi trips to Halong Bay are organized, from Ho Chi Minh City — to the Cu Chi tunnels. The weather here differs from the resort one: in winter it is cooler than in the south. The cities are worth including in the route for two or three days, and not for the whole trip.
Transport within the country and movement
Moving between cities in Vietnam is well established, but takes time. The choice of transport depends on the distance and budget.
Sleeper buses, trains and ferries to the islands
Between Nha Trang, Da Nang and Hoi An it is convenient to move by sleeper buses and trains — this is cheaper than flights. A sleeper bus is a bus with lying places, the trip takes from eight hours. Trains go along the coast, and tickets are better to take in advance. Ferries to Phu Quoc and back depend on the weather, in winter flights are sometimes canceled. To Phan Rang and Vung Tau travelers get by buses from Ho Chi Minh City. For short distances within the city they take a taxi or a bike taxi.
Renting a bike and taxi via apps
Motorbike rental is popular, but driving requires an international driving permit with category A. Without one, a fine is possible during a check. In tourist cities, it is better to order a taxi through the Grab or Mai Linh apps to avoid haggling. The app shows the price in advance, and this eliminates disputes with the driver. A motorbike is convenient for short trips around Nha Trang or Mui Ne, but on highways between cities it is dangerous. A helmet is mandatory, and traffic in the country is busy.
Visa and entry rules change: check the primary source — the Immigration Department of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/. The information on this page was verified on 18.09.2026.
Gastronomy and everyday safety
Vietnamese cuisine differs from region to region. Knowledge of local specifics helps avoid problems.
Regional differences in Vietnamese cuisine
Vietnamese cuisine varies across regions: in the north there are soups and fried dishes, in the south there is more sweetness and coconut. In Hanoi, pho with beef and fried fish are served. In Ho Chi Minh City and Mui Ne, more sugar and coconut milk are added to dishes. In Nha Trang and Phan Thiet, there are many dishes made from fresh fish and shrimp. In Da Nang and Hoi An, the influence of central cuisine with spicy seasoning is noticeable. Street portions are usually small, so several dishes are ordered.
Street food and choosing places to eat
Street food is safer in high-traffic places where food does not sit around. Choose spots where food is cooked in front of you and there are many local visitors. Tap water is not suitable for drinking, and it is better to ask about ice in drinks. Fruit should be washed yourself or bought already peeled. In the tourist areas of Nha Trang and Da Nang, there are places with clear menus in English. If health problems arise, insurance arranged in advance will help.
In brief
- The route from Uralsk always goes through Almaty; there are no direct flights to Vietnam.
- Dates are chosen for the resort: rains in the south and center occur in different months.
- Dong are exchanged in small amounts; the rate in the city is better than at the airport.
- Between Nha Trang, Da Nang and Hoi An, sleeper buses and trains run along the coast.
- Motorbikes are rented only with a category A license; a helmet is always mandatory.
