Tours to Vietnam: what to know

The most comfortable time to go is from November to April: during this time in the south, in Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Mui Ne and Phan Thiet, it is dry and clear, and the sea is calm.

Visa, documents and entry rules for Kazakhstanis: what do you need to know?

The trip begins with paperwork, and here it is important to understand in advance what will be needed and what will not. A calm holiday in Vietnam is made up of small details gathered before departure.

Visa-free regime and length of stay

For citizens of Kazakhstan, tours to Vietnam from Atyrau begin without obtaining an entry permit for a trip of up to 30 days. In this case, the passport must be valid for at least six months on the date of entry. This period cannot be extended on the spot without leaving the country, therefore, if you plan a longer holiday in Vietnam, it is worth thinking in advance about leaving for a neighboring country and re-entering. This option is chosen by those who want to spend a month or more in Nha Trang or Phu Quoc. Check the current conditions before buying tickets, as the rules may change.

Insurance, vaccinations and documents at the border

At the border, you may be asked for a return ticket or confirmation of a hotel booking, so keep printouts or files on your phone. Tours to Vietnam from Atyrau usually include such documents in the package, but it is better to have copies at hand.

How to get there and what to consider on the road?

The journey from Atyrau to the resorts takes almost a day, and it is worth planning in advance. Holidays in Vietnam begin already at the airport, and a couple of well-thought-out decisions will save energy.

Money, cards and currency exchange

Vietnamese dong cannot be bought in Atyrau and Almaty, so people bring dollars or euros in cash and exchange them upon arrival. The rate in banks and exchange offices in Nha Trang, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City is usually more favorable than at the airport. Visa and Mastercard cards from Kazakhstani banks are not accepted everywhere, especially in small cafes and markets, so cash is needed for everyday expenses. ATMs dispense dong at the issuing bank's rate, but charge a commission, and the limit per transaction is limited. It is more convenient to structure a holiday in Vietnam this way: pay for large hotels and tours by card, and pay for small things in cash.

When to go: weather and seasons

The country's climate is divided into three zones, and each has its own best month for a trip. The choice of date strongly affects what your holiday in Vietnam will be like.

Rain and typhoons in the central provinces

The rainy season and typhoons in the central part of the country occur in autumn, from September to November. During this time in Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue, heavy downpours and storm warnings are possible, and some excursions are canceled. In winter and spring it is dry and warm here, which makes Da Nang and Hoi An convenient for beach holidays and walks through the old quarters. In summer, the central provinces are hot, but the sea is calm. When planning trips to Vietnam from Atyrau for autumn, it is better to look toward the south, where the weather is more stable.

High season at southern resorts

In the south, rains are short and more often occur in the evening, so the high season there lasts almost all year round. Phu Quoc, Phan Thiet, Mui Ne and Vung Tau receive tourists from November to April, when the weather is dry and clear. Phan Rang and Nha Trang also please with a calm sea and mild sun during these months. From May to October, the south is hotter and more humid, but a holiday in Vietnam is still possible: downpours quickly give way to sunshine. Hanoi and the north of the country are best visited in spring and autumn, when there is no exhausting heat.

Communication, transport and everyday life on site

Everyday little things such as communication and movement determine how comfortable the holiday will be. It is worth sorting them out in the first days, while adaptation is underway.

SIM cards, internet and sockets

A SIM card from the local operator Viettel, Mobifone or Vinaphone is issued using a passport at communication stores or at the airport. Tourist tariffs include internet for 7–30 days, and this is enough for maps, messengers and calling a taxi. Sockets in Vietnam are mainly types A, C and F with a voltage of 220 V, so an adapter is needed for Kazakhstani plugs. Wi-Fi in hotels in Nha Trang, Da Nang and Phu Quoc is usually free and fast, but in remote areas the signal is weaker. You can also buy a SIM card online in advance, but it is cheaper on site.

Moving between cities and motorbike rental

Between Nha Trang, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, it is most convenient to fly with local airlines: trains go slowly and take more than a day. Tickets for domestic flights are inexpensive, and the travel time is about an hour. Motorbike rental is popular in Phu Quoc and Mui Ne, but an international driver's license is required to drive, and without it fines and problems with insurance in case of an accident are possible. It is worth ordering a taxi through the Grab or Be apps to avoid inflated prices from street drivers. In Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, buses and the metro are convenient, and in tourist centers there are many pedestrian zones.

Visa and entry rules change: check with the primary source — the Immigration Department of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/. The information on this page was verified on 17.09.2026.

Safety, food and health

Acclimatization and unfamiliar cuisine are the main sources of discomfort in the first days. Simple rules will help you spend your beach holidays in Vietnam without illness and unnecessary expenses.

Street food, water and the first days

Tap water is not drinking water; bottled water is used, including for brushing teeth in remote areas. Street food is safe in crowded places with high foot traffic, but if you have a sensitive stomach, it is better to eat in cafes for the first days. Vietnamese cuisine is based on rice, noodles, greens and seafood, so spicy food should be tried gradually. Fruits and vegetables from street stalls are best washed with bottled water or choose those that are peeled in front of you. In Nha Trang, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City there are many restaurants with a European menu, which is convenient for families with children.

Tipping, alcohol and local restrictions

Tipping in the country is not mandatory, but in tourist areas they leave 5–10% of the bill or round up the amount. Alcohol is sold freely, but on days of local holidays and near temples restrictions may apply. In Hanoi and Hoi An, silence in residential neighborhoods is respected, so noisy groups are better suited for bars and clubs. The language barrier is noticeable: English is understood in hotels and tourist centers; in remote areas, a translator on your phone will come in handy. Respect for local customs and modest clothing at temples make your beach holidays in Vietnam calmer and more pleasant.

In brief

  • A trip from Atyrau is arranged via a transfer in Almaty and takes almost a day.
  • Southern resorts welcome guests from November to April, central provinces — in spring.
  • Dong cannot be bought in Kazakhstan, so dollars or euros are brought in cash.
  • Between cities it is more convenient to fly, and order a taxi through Grab or Be.
