Vacation in Beijing is worth planning for September or October: in these months it is dry, warm and the sky is clear. The time difference with Almaty is 3 hours all year round: China is on UTC+8, Kazakhstan on UTC+5. Hotels in the center are booked several months before the trip, and prices for tours to Beijing are noticeably higher on national holidays.
Beijing is a destination worth preparing for in advance. Let's look at flights, seasons and the first organizational steps for a tourist from Kazakhstan.
From Almaty to Beijing it is most convenient to fly direct — about five hours in the air. Connections through Urumqi, Istanbul or Seoul lengthen the journey, but sometimes cost less. The time difference with Almaty is 3 hours all year round: China is on UTC+8, Kazakhstan on UTC+5. During the first day after arrival the body still lives on the old schedule, so do not plan a busy program for that day. Tours to China from Almaty with a connection are chosen by those who want to see one more city along the way. Compare options by time and price in advance.
Check your passport a month before the trip: its validity must cover the entire journey with a margin. Print out return tickets and confirmation of accommodation booking — they may be asked for at the check-in desk. Save copies of documents in your phone and in the cloud so as not to depend on the paper original. Take out a medical insurance policy before departure: without it, a visit to a doctor will be expensive. Vacation in Beijing begins with these calm formalities, and it is better to close them at home than at the airport.
The capital of China lives in four distinct seasons. The choice of month determines both the weather, and the hotel occupancy, and the overall impression of the trip.
The best time for a trip is September and October: dry, warm and clear sky. In spring the city is covered by smog and dust storms occur, so a mask and eye drops will come in handy. In summer it is hot and stuffy, the temperature often goes over thirty degrees. Winters are dry and frosty, but there are noticeably fewer tourists. When is the best time to go to Beijing depends on what you want to see: golden autumn or quiet winter streets.
| Season | Weather | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | Warm, windy | Few tourists | Smog, dust |
| Summer | Hot, stuffy | Long day | Queues, heat |
| Autumn | Dry, clear | Best views | Peak season |
| Winter | Frost, dry | Low prices | Short day |
Chinese New Year is the busiest period: hotels become more expensive, and many shops close. National holidays in early October also gather crowds at the main sites. On these dates train tickets and accommodation are snapped up months in advance, so book early. The shoulder season offers calm walks and reasonable prices for tours. If your dates are flexible, choose late November or February.
Accommodation in the capital of China ranges from hostels to international chains. Let's look at check-in rules and districts where it is more convenient to stay.
When checking into a hotel, the front desk handles all the formalities itself — only a passport is needed from the guest. Some budget guesthouses do not accept foreigners, so clarify this before paying. Hotels in Beijing in the center are booked faster than on the outskirts. Read reviews about the district: proximity to the metro saves time and energy. The center near Tiananmen Square is convenient for the first walks, but more expensive. The Chaoyang district is loved for its restaurants and proximity to business quarters.
The outskirts at the terminal metro stations are noticeably cheaper, and you can reach the center in half an hour. Sanlitun will suit those who want nightlife and bars. Prices for tours to Beijing include different levels of accommodation, so compare categories, not just the amount. A hostel, a guesthouse and an international chain differ not only in price, but also in breakfast, location and quiet at night. Choose by how much time you spend in the room.
Visa and entry rules change: check with the primary source — the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Kazakhstan, https://kz.china-embassy.gov.cn/lsfw/zhengjian/qianzheng/. The information on this page was verified on 10.09.2026.
A family trip requires a different pace and planning. Let's talk about entertainment for different ages and about food that both children and adults will appreciate.
Vacation in Beijing with children is easy to build around parks and interactive museums. Little ones will enjoy the zoo and the oceanarium with a show. Schoolchildren will be interested in the planetarium and the science museum with experiments. Teenagers will appreciate water parks and amusement parks on the outskirts. In winter, some programs operate in indoor pavilions, in summer — outdoors. Take water and a snack with you: the distances inside the parks are large.
Chinese cuisine in the capital is spicy and oily, you have to get used to this. The menu contains unusual ingredients, so clarify the composition of a dish in advance. For children, look for rice noodles, steamed dumplings, chicken in sauce — they are available almost everywhere. European dishes are served in hotels and shopping malls. In large establishments there is a menu with pictures: it is enough to point a finger at the right photo.
A few everyday details solve half of the problems in an unfamiliar city. Let's gather what is worth thinking through before departure.
Link a Kazakhstan card to WeChat Pay or Alipay — this is the most convenient way to pay. Cash yuan will come in handy at markets and in small shops. It is more profitable to exchange tenge in Almaty before departure than at exchange offices on the spot. A local SIM card gives cheap internet, an eSIM is connected even before arrival. Some familiar messengers are unavailable in China, this is worth remembering in advance.
The metro in Beijing is cheap and easy to navigate: signs are duplicated in Latin script. It is convenient to call a taxi through an app where the address is entered as text. Few people understand English, so keep a translator on your phone at hand. It is worth arranging medical insurance before the trip: a doctor's visit without it will be expensive. Tipping in China is not customary — neither in restaurants, nor in taxis, nor in hotels.
It is best to choose spring or autumn, when the weather is mild.
A direct flight takes about five hours.
Prices for hotels in Beijing vary — from budget to premium.
The Forbidden City, the Great Wall and the Temple of Heaven.
Yes, there is a zoo, parks and entertainment for children.
Chinese cuisine, known for Peking duck and noodles.
In winter it is cold, but tours to Beijing are cheaper and there are fewer tourists.
Silk, tea and products of Chinese craftsmen.
Usually five to seven days are enough for the main places.
Yes, there are direct flights from Almaty to Beijing.
The most convenient way is by metro and taxi.
It is better in advance, especially in high season.
What travellers write afterwards: the hotel, the dates and what is worth knowing in advance.
went to Beijing through the agency, everything was organized fine, the hotel was actually pretty far from the center.. took a taxi every day, but that's minor. Overall satisfied, four stars.
Bought a tour to Beijing for a week at a travel agency in our city. The capital of China... well yeah, huge, noisy, but I liked it. The Great Wall impressed me the most, though the stairs there — wouldn't wish them on an enemy. The guide turned out to be sharp, explained things clearly, without extra fluff, though the hotel could've been closer to the center. Overall I was satsified, a four is well deserved.
went to beijing and still can't get over it to be honest. the guide turned out to be a normal guy, told and showed everything.. but the bus with air conditioning is a whole different story - it blew so hard i almost froze. the wall of course was impressive, the stairs are steep, i thought my legs would fall off while climbing. the forbidden city is huge, you walk and walk and there's no end to it. peking duck is top, crispy skin, though the sauce is kinda too sweet for my taste. at the hotel breakfast was so-so, but i'm not picky. street food went down fine, i learned to handle chopsticks more or less) the weather was hot, but bearable. came back happy, recommend to everyone

Took the package spontaneously — I needed to take mom to a doctor in Beijing, and there was just a week-long tour, so I went for it, even though I usually book everything myself. Overall the trip turned out well, the hotel was decent, though the AC rattled like a tractor and the breakfasts were so-so — rubbery omelet, but it was worth it, I absolutely loved the city

Thank you for your review. We have taken note of your comment and are working on it.
at first i was scared to fly alone. but the manager sorted everything out with the documents and i went... in Beijing i walked on the wall, ate duck, at the market i touched silk with my hands - it's slippery and cold like a fish, and at the hotel the AC didn't work and i slept with the window open)) but that's minor stuff ofc
Priehala posmotret Pekin, potomu chto davno hotelas' uvidet' etot gorod, i v tur agentsve Kazakhstana predlozhili horoshiy marshrut. Vse ponravilos', no odin minus - holodnovato bylo v yanvare, no eto ne isportilo vpechatlenie, osobenno zapomnilsya Velikiy Kitayskiy bar'er i utka po-pekinski. Ochen dovolna poezdkoy, postavila by 5 iz 5.
the point of no return was passed when I packed my suitcase and left. Beijing in January is of course freezing, wind in your face, but when I climbed the Great Wall at Mutianyu, feet like ice, hat over my eyes, but still buzzing.

The trip to Beijing turned out great, everything went without a hitch and I came back with tons of impressions. Walked around the Forbidden City, ate Peking duck and even climbed a section of the Great Wall of China, so five stars well deserved.

Bought a tour to Beijing, and everything went great — the guide told us everything, the transfer didn't let us down, the hotel turned out to be right next to the metro, so even tired after the Great Wall of China I quickly got to my room. The food was hearty, there was Peking duck, though it was a bit fatty, but that's just nitpicking, overall I was very pleased and am already recommending it to friends.
I started looking at options because my friend kept inviting me to Beijing and I kept putting it off, and I ended up at this travel agency by accident — an acquaintance recommended it, said they get everything done fast. Well, they got it done, I flew, and that's when the fun began: the guide turned out to be talkative, he told us about the Forbidden City in a way that made me forget about the heat and about my feet buzzing from walking on that wall of theirs, anyway, enough impressions to last a year. The food was strange, but tasty, I kept trying to figure out what spice was in the duck — never figured it out, and oh well, I came back happy and I'm already thinking where to run off to next, just gotta unpack my suitcase first
Sebralas w Komandirovku po rabote i reshila dokinut' paru dnei otdyha - tak i wybrala tur w agenstwe, potomu chto samoi bylo len' wozit'sya s wizami i pereletami. Leteli w Pekin, po delam, no potom byla i swobodnaya programma. Priehali, zhara nehoroshaya, noch'yu zhdat' prixoditsya dolgo, no wse ok. At first I was looking for somewhere to go for the May holidays that was cheap and visa-free-then I remembered that at the travel agency they'd been pushing something about China at me back in winter so I came back to the same place. they gave me Beijing for 5 days, the hotel was decent, the guide took us around Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, there I finally got to touch those huge bronze cauldrons at the entrance, freezing cold even in May. from the Peking duck I'll honestly say I expected more, but the walls at the Temple of Heaven, those huge slabs under your feet, really hit different, I walked around turning my head like an idiot. The only thing that drove me crazy was their taxi app, without it you're nobody, and the internet in roaming was lagging terribly.. I came back tired but happy, liked it
We went to Beijing because my husband had a urgent business trip and I didn't want to sit at home alone, so I tagged along, booked a tour through our agency for two nights. Everything would be fine, the hotel was clean and even slippers with a fan in the room (a small thing, but nice), but the breakfast... porridge in water and cold dim sum - I kind of didn't expect that from a four star, although we walked around the Forbidden City gloriously.

Went to Beijing through the agency, everything was organized well, the hotel turned out right by the metro, so I walked my legs off to death, but it was worth it. The Great Wall in the snow is something else, though the food at the local cafe was really weird, but I'm staying positive, five stars.
beijing in winter is something else. walked around the hutongs, hands froze terribly, but i bought cheap chopsticks and real uggs - dont ask how. the great wall in snow, but the climb almost killed me, and the guide turned out to be talkative beyond possibility,, later though i came to terms and even laughed.

Thank you for writing. We passed your words on to the whole team.
took a tour to Beijing for August and never regretted it even though it all cost a pretty penny. The manager picked a hotel near Wangfujing, and it turned out to be spot on, because in the morning you walk out and immediately eat jianbing from street stalls and she allowed to move the departure date with no extra charge when I had a mess at work. The Great Wall is of course mighty, but what stuck with me more is a small thing, in an alley I bought a fan for fifteen yuan and the saleslady showed me how to wave it properly so the wind goes not in your face but sideways, weird but it really works, and at the hotel the AC blew right onto the bed and I caught a slight cold, oh well. Jingshan hill at sunset, tea in a thermos with me, got a bit sunburned on my shoulders and they still itch..
went to beijing for work, and decided to grab a tour from our guys at the same time so I wouldn't have to deal with the visa and flights. chose this agency specifically because a friend of mine did turkey with them and didn't seem to hate it.. the hotel turned out decent, the breakfasts were sweet though, to the point of nausea, but coffee saved me. on the second day I went to the wall, my legs were buzzing like crazy, but the views - I'm telling you it's something else. on the way back we drove in silence, I looked out the window and thought I'd have to come back again, just without all these group meetups and full-day tours

Went to Beijing because I finally wanted to see the Great Wall, not just in pictures, and also to close the gestalt on proper Chinese food. The Wall is of course something else, the stairs in places are so steep that I held onto the railing with both hands, but the view makes up for everything, and the food at the hotel was so-so, breakfasts bland and coffee instant (though I tried duck in the city, there it's all great). Overall the trip was a success, organization was fine, no surprises, came back happy and with a bunch of magnets.

Went for work, needed to sort out a production issue on site. A regular vacation didn't fit, so I was looking for a short tour specifically to Beijing to combine business and a couple of days to see the city. The agency turned out to be decent, documents were done quickly, the visa was processed without hassle. They put me in a decent hotel, though the breakfast was weak, powdered coffee and stale buns by morning. The Great Wall impressed with its scale, but the climb turned out steep and hot — got really worn out by lunch. Overall the trip was a success, got things done, saw the city, came back with mild fatigue.
Took a tour to Beijing for five days. The flight was fine, hotel in the center, ten minutes walk to the metro. We ate at a cafe nearby, I ate dumplings with my hands, burned myself. The guide kept herding everyone around, but I still managed to wander the alleys on my own, bought a fan there for yuan. I remember the smell of jasmine and the line to the Great Wall... the cable car, the wind, my knees were shaking. Came back full of delight, it didn't let go for a week after. Already thinking about a second trip to the same place.
went to Beijing, for a week. flew there and back, everything was fine. the hotel was, well, just regular, the outlet by the bed didn't work, had to charge my phone by the tv, drove me crazy. The manager sorted everything out fast, without all that stuff. breakfast was oatmeal, I've hated it since childhood, but coffee saved me. got lucky with the weather, even though it's November, but sun, walked around the hutongs, touched those gray bricks, cold. The Great Wall is of course mighty, but the stairs are murder, my knees still remember. at a street stall I got some kind of steamed dumplings, spicy to tears, but tasty. alone is fine, nobody bothers you, got on the subway and went wherever my eyes looked. flew back already tired, just wanted to sleep
Bought a tour at an agency for two weeks. Beijing turned out to be huge, I didn't even expect it. What I remember most is the Forbidden City — walked there almost half a day, my legs were buzzing terribly, but it was worth it. The Great Wall... we went there by bus, long, but the views. At the hotel the food was strange — for breakfast rice and some kind of steamed buns, I'm not used to that, but I didn't stay hungry. The guide was energetic, told everything fast, sometimes I didn't have time to understand. Also liked how they cook duck in the alleys — the smell fills the whole street. The weather in September was great, sunny almost every day. Came back happy, even though I was tired as a dog.

Went to Beijing, everything went well, but there were a couple of hiccups. The manager helped with the documents, thanks for that, though the guide on site sometimes got confused with the schedule. Four out of five, came back with a ton of impressions and a magnet for the fridge.

We went to Beijing because we wanted to go to China, and the visa was easiest to get for there. The manager did everything quickly, though I actually collected the dokuments myself from the list. In Beijing the most memorable thing was the Peking duck in a small dive near the market, where we ate with our hands and got the whole table dirty. The morning smog is of course its own thing, hard to breathe, but by lunchtime it usually cleared up. Overall the trip was a success, only on one of the days the tour shifted by two hours and we just sat in the lobby.

Thank you for writing. We have passed your words on to the whole team.
Went to Beijing, everything went smoothly. They fed us Peking duck, it was tasty, but the hotel had cold radiators, I slept in a sweater. Came back with a ton of impressions, don't regret the money!
